Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Head of the PCC's Commission for Communication and Education Phan Xuan Thuy said that the Press Center will create favorable conditions for domestic and international reporters to report on the Dien Bien Phu victory. The center also proactively and actively provides information about the celebration, while ensuring information safety and security, contributing to the successful organization of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory.

In additions, Thuy directed the Press Center to pay attention to meeting the requirements of press activities on other topics that domestic and foreign reporters may be interested in, such as the economic and social development situation, the reform process, poverty reduction, Vietnam's foreign policy, the country and people of Vietnam, in order to best take advantage of the world's attention and promote Vietnam's reputation in the international arena.

The organizing committee also showcased 33 special issues of the People's Army newspaper published in the 1954 battlefield and a photo and video exhibition titled “Happy Vietnam 2024.”

A stamp set on the great victory was released, featuring decorative motifs of the Thai ethnic group and historical images, seamlessly connecting the province's heroic past to the happy, developed future of Dien Bien province.

Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam said, “On the previous occasions of commemorating even-numbered years of the Dien Bien Phu victory, the postal sector, now the information and communications sector, issued sets of postage stamps. This is the 8th stamp set honored to be released, conveying a message to international friends about patriotism, revolutionary spirit, and the power of great national unity and Vietnamese willpower and intelligence.”

The set, designed by artist Nguyen Du from the Vietnam Post Corporation, features four stamps arranged in a panoramic layout. Each stamp measures 43 x 32 mm while the entire set measures 172 x 32 mm, VNA reported.

It depicts a narrative of the heroic past and the bright future of Dien Bien Phu, from the glorious past to the promising future. On March 13, 1954, the Vietnamese revolutionary army launched the first attack against the French colonialists’ heavily fortified base of Dien Bien Phu, starting a 56-day historic campaign whose victory directly led to the signing of the Geneva Accords on ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina.

President Ho Chi Minh once affirmed that the Dien Bien Phu Victory was a brilliant milestone in history that directly led to the signing of the Geneva Accords. It also created a foundation and conditions for the Vietnamese people to secure victory in the resistance war against the US, liberate the South, and reunify the country in 1975.

Seventy years have passed, but the victory remains a source of pride of the Vietnamese people due to its global significance.
