Quang Ninh province targets 6,700-7,800 units of blood in donation
The northern province of Quang Ninh has set a target to collect 6,700-7,800 units of blood each year in the 2016-2020 period, with the percentage of the population donating blood increasing from 0.55% to 0.62%.
The target was announced during a meeting of the provincial steering committee on humanitarian blood donation held on May 24th to review the implementation of Directive 08/CT-UBND on increasing leadership over encouraging humanitarian blood donation in the 2013-2015 period.
According to the provincial steering committee on humanitarian blood donation, after 3 years of implementation, the humanitarian blood donation movements have developed strongly in the province.
So far it has maintained the operation of 23 preparatory blood donation teams and living banks across 14 localities, with the participation of over 2,000 people.
Since 2013, each year, the province has held 30 humanitarian blood donation drives, collecting 4,000-6,000 units of blood per year.
To reach the target for the new period, Vu Thi Thu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee and Head of the provincial steering committee on humanitarian blood donation, suggested that steering committees at all levels should increase the dissemination of information about blood donation, expand groups of blood donors, honour collectives and inpiduals who make great contributions to the program, and mobilise capital for blood donation activities./.
