The Vietnam Women's Museum in collaboration with the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping and the Board of Memory Heritage organized the event named “Aspirations for Peace” in Hanoi on January 9.

This is an activity towards the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Paris Agreement on ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam (Paris Peace Accords) (January 27, 1973).

In her opening remarks, Nguyen Thi Minh Huong, vice president of the Vietnam Women's Union, said that the signing of the agreement is considered a victory of the aspiration for peace, the will and spirit of Vietnam, and the companionship of peace-loving people around the world.

In a country that went through many wars to safeguard its independence, every Vietnamese deeply understands the sacred meaning of peace, and the aspiration for peace has become the life purpose of the nation, nurtured and preserved by generations of Vietnamese people, including women, she added.

At the talkshow, guests shared with the public their stories during their struggle and devotion for peace in Vietnam and the world.

The event included a talkshow themed "For Peace" with the participation of historical witnesses, directly participating in the struggle process, joining hands to contribute to a peace for Vietnam and the world.

They shared with the public their moving stories about the journey of dedication and peace-building of many generations of Vietnamese people and international friends, when they were young people full of enthusiasm in the struggle for peace; or when they become "peaceful messengers" in other country; or when experiencing happy and proud moments of the historic day - January 27, 1973.

American female lawyer Nancy Hollander (red dress) shared with the public her stories.

American female lawyer Nancy Hollander recalled the process of participating in activities against the war in Vietnam in the US; and how she always has special affection for the country and the people of Vietnam.

She was the youngest delegate to join the first people-to-people diplomatic meeting between Vietnam and the US in 1965 in Jakarta, Indonesia. In 2019, Nancy came to Vietnam for the first time and had a historic meeting with former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh, who played a special role in negotiating and signing the Paris Agreement.

Nancy also entrusted the Vietnam Women's Museum with 450 precious documents and artifacts that she has kept for more than half a century since the meeting between American women and peers of the two South and North Vietnam in Jakarta in 2014.

Meanwhile, sharing about her work in South Sudan, Lieutenant Colonel Do Thi Hang Nga, deputy head of International Cooperation Department, discussed the hardships when the regular job lasted from 4pm the previous day to 8am the next morning, with a lot of stress and pressure, but expressed pride in being in the ranks of the officials contributing to the preservation of the peace of the United Nations.

Nga, who is also deputy director of Level-2 Field Hospital No. 4, is always aware of the responsibility of a Vietnam People's Army soldier participating in international missions.

Within the framework of the event, there is also an exhibition titled "Aspirations for Peace", showcased photos and documents featuring two parts "The Road to Peace" and "The Paris Agreement - Victory of the aspiration for peace".
