Overcoming fate, spreading love
Nguyen Tai Nam, born in 1990 in the Central Highlands, a region known for its abundant sunshine and wind, was diagnosed with a rare disease at age 8. His father, Nguyen Tai Vang, said that Nam suffered from a bifidoma of the eighth nerve, also known as a brain neurofibroma. In pursuit of a cure, they frequented the hospital, enduring 24 excruciating surgeries. Despite the pain, they held onto the belief that "where there is life, there is hope," remaining steadfast in their hope for Nam's recovery.
"The terrible disease has taken away many things from me. Twenty-four surgeries are 24 times I have faced death.People often ask if I am afraid. Indeed, I am. I fear pain, the thought of burdening my aging parents, and other fears that are hard to express. However, through charity, I've found support from compassionate individuals during my extended time confined to a hospital bed. It is this same charity that inspires me to live a life full of meaning and purpose," Nam confided.

After many surgeries, Nam's limbs atrophied, and he became unable to hear or speak. His health has been deteriorating. While Nam used to move around in a wheelchair, his father has had to carry him for the past two years. "Nam's mother had surgery for a herniated disc and hip as well. I am the sole caregiver for two disabled family members. Nevertheless, I find contentment knowing that Nam, in spite of his disabilities, remains purposeful and strives to make a positive impact on society," said Nguyen Tai Vang, Nam's father.
In 2016, Nguyen Tai Nam established the Ea Kao - Loving Arms charity group with 15 initial members and has since been leading it. Despite his disability that prevents him from walking, Nam is dearly loved by the group members, who collaborate to perform meaningful community service. For discussions, Nam notes down his thoughts or communicates with the group via Zalo.
The Ea Kao Volunteer Group - Loving Arms is renowned for its significant projects like "Raising Children," "Helping Children Go to School," the "Long-distance Support" scholarship, "Health Insurance Card for Children," and providing "White Shirts to School for Children." Additionally, the group assists in dire situations, such as aiding patients unable to afford hospital fees or covering funeral costs for the deceased without means.
Nam and his team are committed to daily efforts to assist more individuals, thereby spreading love throughout the community.
Becoming a fire-bearer
Pham Hong Quan, a member of the Ea Kao-Loving Arms volunteer group in Buon Ma Thuot, Dak Lak, said: "Joining the volunteer group, I was taken aback and deeply moved by our group leader, Nguyen Tai Nam. It was beyond my expectations to see Nam accomplish so much despite his own travel challenges. Nam consistently serves as the spark that drives our group, inspiring all members to exert greater effort to compensate for what the group leader is unable to do. Together, we strive to achieve more impactful work."

The relentless dedication and spirit of group leader Nguyen Tai Nam have inspired other members to exert greater effort. "Despite his limited ability to listen and speak, Nam consistently supports and motivates the group's members, guiding them through an extensive journey. He may not be able to walk, but I can, so why shouldn't I strive as he does? As a result, all members are joyful and passionate about our activities," shared Pham Thanh Nga, a member of the Ea Kao - Loving Arms volunteer group.
Attending Thai Phien Primary School in Buon Ma Thuot, Dak Lak, and engaging with the Ea Kao volunteer group's activities to present gifts and bicycles to disadvantaged students who have triumphed over hardships, Number 1 Brand Ambassador Vu Phuong Thanh, also the Swiss Ultra 2022 champion, was deeply moved by the significant and constructive efforts of Nguyen Tai Nam and his team of volunteers.

During the program "Connecting Love," the Swiss Ultra 2022 champion presented Nam with a gift to further inspire Nam and the volunteer team to persist in their community outreach and contributions.
Nam's resolve and compassion serve as a beacon for the children of Ea Kao commune, inspiring them to persevere and aim high. He has not only conquered his own challenges but also dedicates himself to improving the lives of those in his community. The belief that "Nothing is impossible" resonates through Nguyen Tai Nam's narrative and his years of volunteering.
