After one year of construction, the old French villa in Hoan Kiem district (Hanoi) has completed the entire exterior architecture renovation. The restoration is done on the principle of preserving the original elements of this work as much as possible.
Project of Conservation, Repair and Anti-Deterioration of Villas at Tran Hung Dao street and Hang Bai street (Hoan Kiem, Hanoi) is invested by the Management Board of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter, with technical support from foreign experts from the Ile-de-France region (France).
This villa has an area of more than 990-meter square, built in the early 20th century, is one of the works that still retains many architectural values.
The representative of the investor shared that the preservation and restoration of this villa faced many difficulties because the documents related to the design were almost no longer available. For example, the archived image is only a black and white image, and when the image is enlarged, the damaged architecture cannot be clearly identified.
As a result, the stakeholders have conducted a study on the architectural design of the villas around this area to carry out the restoration.
"This project has a total investment of about VND 14,7 billion. However, during the renovation process, additional costs will arise because some items are being adjusted," said the representative of the investor.

The project investment funds are used entirely by the budget capital of Hoan Kiem District. |
According to the President of the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District Pham Tuan Long, the project to renovate the villa is within the cooperation framework of the research project between Hanoi and the Ile-de-France region to preserve and promote the value of the area. From the commencement date (April 2022) until now, Hanoi has received foreign experts and architects to join the district in the process of designing and planning a project to restore the villa.
In the near future, this villa will be a cultural destination where heritage lovers can learn about the history of French Quarter in Hanoi. This helps them to learn about the influences and cultural interference between the two countries France - Vietnam during the first half of the 20th century.
