The event was attended by Chairman of the Vietnam Peace Committee Uong Chu Luu; former leaders; representatives from central ministries and agencies; the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO); and member organizations of VUFO.

The conference featured 12 speakers, including scholars, researchers, and diplomats from Vietnam and abroad, and nearly 100 delegates, including domestic and international experts.
In his opening remarks, President of the Viet Nam Peace and Development Foundation Ha Hung Cuong highlighted the rapid, complex, and unpredictable changes occurring in global and regional dynamics in recent years. While peace, stability, and development remain the overarching trends and aspirations of people worldwide, they are accompanied by numerous challenges and difficulties.
The Asia-Pacific region, with its increasingly strategic importance, faces complex developments in Southeast Asia’s security environment, including unresolved hotspots. These dynamics present both opportunities and challenges to ASEAN’s central role.

President Ha Hung Cuong emphasized that the foundation organized the conference to analyze global and regional transformations in 2024 with the participation of Vietnamese and international scholars. The objective was to identify factors influencing regional peace and stability and to promote sustainable solutions for maintaining peace while enhancing ASEAN's central role.
During the first session, "The World and Regional Situations: Opportunities and Challenges for ASEAN," speakers presented on topics such as the current global and regional landscape, global security governance, the role of multilateral institutions and international law, and the balance between peace, cooperation, competition, and confrontation in contemporary international relations.

In the second session, "The Way Forward to Peace, Stability, Cooperation, and Development," Ambassador Le Luong Minh, Former ASEAN Secretary-General presents strategic shifts in the region, outlining ASEAN's opportunities, challenges, and approaches.
The speakers also discussed the status and prospects of ASEAN-led mechanisms, strategies to build a cohesive and resilient ASEAN with expanded connectivity, and the organization's role in preventing conflicts and maintaining regional peace and stability.
In addition to listening to presentations, the conference featured interactive discussion sessions, allowing delegates to pose questions, exchange ideas, and comment on the topics covered in both sessions.
