An exhibition about clouds?

Is it monotonous and boring?

According to Dr. Bui Quang Thang, Art Director of VICAS Art Studio, Theodor Storm, a beloved German poet, once wrote: “The cloud is the most beautiful scenery of this region. It was also here that the famous artist Emil Nolde drew hundreds of masterpieces of clouds.” MÂY (Cloud) is an object that does not stand still; artists can depict a certain moment in its journey of ongoing flux, but will never be able to grasp it in the entirety of its tremendous movement and transformation.

Yet MÂY is a natural phenomenon varying among different geographic and climatic regions, as well as an aesthetic phenomenon bearing a multiplicity cultural meaning.

In this exhibition, each artist demonstrates their own aesthetic sense of MÂY: these may be the clouds whose forms and colors they have interpreted based on a memory (expressionism or Impressionism) or those that they attempt to capture in real time (live drawing). They may be imaginary clouds (surrealism), or abstract artistic renderings (abstract and conceptual art). Some artists look at the clouds from the ground (clouds interacting with Northern fields, with Northwest mountains, with the sea or in a big city), while others stay above the cloud layer to imagine clouds interacting with other surreal entities. Additionally, MÂY are expressed not only in abstract expressions but also in conceptual sculptures.

“As the curator of this exhibition, I have been inspired by the richness, variety of genres, and artistic styles of all, as well as by the distinct appeal of each work,” said Thang.

The event will be opening on Jun 27 at VICAS Art Studio (32 Hao Nam Street, Dong Da District, Hanoi)./.
