According to Consul General Pang Te Cheng, the commemoration of Singapore's 59th National Day is a testament to the longstanding friendship and strategic partnership, particularly between the peoples of both countries. This relationship has grown stronger over the years, built on a foundation of mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation.
He highly appreciates the role of the HCMC Union of Friendship Organizations in fostering friendships between people from both countries. The core of the relationship between Singapore and Vietnam lies in people-to-people connections, which bring meaningful exchanges and strengthen the Vietnam-Singapore bilateral relations.
The diplomat noted that the vibrant Singaporean community in Southern Vietnam and the Vietnamese community in Singapore have contributed to creating valuable bridges that connect the two countries. Educational and cultural exchanges, student exchange programs, and joint research projects have fostered deeper understanding and cooperation.
Additionally, he expressed confidence that the HCMC Union of Friendship Organizations will continue to contribute to the bilateral diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Singapore.

Addressing the event, Chairman of the HCMC Vietnam-Singapore Friendship Association Lam Dung Tien highlighted the long history of economic and cultural exchanges between the peoples of Vietnam and Singapore. Building on this strong tradition, the people of both countries continue to collaborate in business and comprehensive socio-economic development.
He reviewed the over 50-year journey of diplomatic relations between the two countries, particularly notable the over 10 years of strategic partnership development. Economic relations between Vietnam and Singapore have consistently advanced.
The people-to-people diplomacy between the two countries has grown increasingly deep, trusted, and close-knit. The people of both countries share many similarities, including diligence, intelligence, creativity, a strong work ethic, hospitality, and a love for peace.
Given these admirable qualities, Tien expressed confidence that the relationship between the two countries will achieve remarkable success in the coming time, bringing about a better quality of life for their people.
According to the HCMC People's Committee, in recent years, HCMC and Singapore have maintained close relations across various fields, specifically in trade and investment, capacity building for civil servants, and exchanges between governments and peoples. For many consecutive years, Singapore has been the largest source of investment capital for HCMC, with total registered investment in the city reaching US $14 billion, while also being the city's second-largest trading partner. In addition, exchanges between HCMC departments and agencies and Singaporean government agencies have been dynamic, including cooperation in urban planning with the Center for Livable Cities, human resources training with the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and the Singapore Management University, and infrastructure development cooperate with the Infrastructure Asia agency. |
