Sneak Peek at SEA Games 31 Opening Ceremony

On the morning of April 18, the rehearsal for the opening ceremony of the 31st SEA Games took place at My Dinh Athletics Palace. As the ceremony is getting close, dancers and choreographers are working hard to keep up with the demanding schedule.

The event director, also Acting Director of the Department of Performing Arts under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Tran Ly Ly said that the entire crew had more than 40 days to plan and practice.
"After receiving requests from the government, the team prepared very quickly. Thousands of actors, musicians, and choreographers didn't hesitate to get involved. We worked day and night starting from April 2", she said.

The ceremony features four dance performances. The rowing dance, which uses bold music as a symbol of strength, will be performed first.

The conical hat dance shows the cultural pride of the skilled dancers.

Director Tran Ly Ly said the performances aimed to represent a united Vietnam. With that in mind, the bamboo dance is a symbol of solidarity and endurance, perfect to represent the people of the S-shaped land.

The lotus dance appeared last in the rehearsal. With the idea of the lotus reaching out from the mud, the dance demonstrates the individual technique of each dancer and the spirit of the Vietnamese people.

One of the show's directors, Hoang Cong Cuong, said: "The opening ceremony will make use of many modern and up-to-date technologies with global trends, making the stage more eye-catching, so that the audience can be immersed in Vietnam's national pride and thereby introduce sports spirit to other countries in Southeast Asia."

More than 1,000 dancers perform in the 31st SEA Game opening ceremony, from different art academies. Each performance involves a team of 200 dancers.
The opening ceremony of the 31st SEA Games is expected to take place from 7 pm to 9 pm on May 12 at My Dinh National Stadium. Show director Tran Ly Ly said the ceremony brought the image of a Vietnam "rich in identity, touching people's hearts."
