(VNF) - The South African Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, on July 20, donated VND 1 billion to the gratitude fund of Tay Ninh province to take care of the provincial national contributors.

Earlier, the South African Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City handed over five gratitude houses, worth the total cost of VND 350 million, to families of national contributors and relatives of officers, soldiers who are on duty at sea or on islands.

The support of the South African Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City was seen as practical and meaningful activities to celebrate the Nelson Mandela International Day (18 July) and 70th Vietnamese Wounded Soldiers' and Martyrs' Day.

Earlier in April, in celebration of the South Africa's Independence Day, the South African Consulate in HCM City donated 5 gratitude houses to families of the Vietnamese Navy officer and soldiers who are working to protect the country's sea and islands in Truong Sa archipalego. Total value of the gifts is worth VND 350 millions.

The South African Consulate in HCM City has been very active in charitable activities in Vietnam.

In December 2016, the consulate, in coordination with a local enterprise donated 10 newly-built houses to poor families in the southern province of Hau Giang. At the same time, they also gave 136 gift sets including money and new clothes to old homeless women living in Lam Quang Pagoda in HCMC’s District 8.

In addition, in the same period, through HCMC Police newspaper, the South African Consulate and VASS gave 100 gift sets for poor people in the southern province of Dong Thap./.
