Ambassador A. Saj U. Mendis expressed his impression of the development of Vietnam's economy and society after the Doi Moi: “Your country's story is unique. In the previous century, no one could believe that Vietnam has the capacity to change the country's image in just one generation. Today, Vietnam is the "Mecca of manufacturing investment" and an attractive destination for many big global technology corporations such as Samsung and LG. Sri Lankan investors can see many development opportunities when investing in the Vietnamese market."

Ambassador A. Saj U. Mendis is optimistic about Vietnam's development in the coming time and stated that Sri Lanka wishes to promote economic cooperation with Vietnam and participate in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

At the meeting, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga thanked the Sri Lankan people for their support for Vietnam in the past struggle for national independence and the present cause of development. According to President Nguyen Phuong Nga, Vietnam could hardly achieve today's successes without the support of international friends, including Sri Lanka. In order to achieve the goal of becoming a middle-income country, Vietnam still has a lot of work to do, including learning from experiences of the region and the world.

In the coming time, VUFO looks to re-sign a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with the Sri Lanka - Vietnam Friendship Association and coordinate with the Sri Lankan Embassy in organizing activities to promote people-to-people exchanges such as photo exhibitions, and seminars at universities.

In 2021, the trade turnover between Vietnam and Sri Lanka will reach USD 460.49 million. As of September 2021, Sri Lanka has 25 investment projects in Vietnam with a total capital of USD 41 million. These are impressive figures showing the potential for cooperation between the two countries.
