Story of A Vietnamese Gardener In Japan Goes Viral
For many people, gardening is a great way to relax and heal one’s soul after a hard-working week. 24-year-old Nguyen Luan with his creation of a colorful, rich garden in Japan is one of them. He has been living here for 3 years and is currently working as a car mechanic.

Luan started this passion as soon as he arrived in Japan. “My job does not require working overtime, so I have a lot of free time to take care of the house and grow a small garden full of vegetables,” said Luan
The young man used the excess land around the house to grow different kinds of vegetables. Even though it was small, he managed to plant many vegetables such as watermelon, tomato, water morning glory, and spinach.

“I see that growing vegetables here is not difficult, it just takes a lot of effort and hard work. In Japan, there are a lot of Vietnamese vegetable seeds, because not only Vietnamese people but many Japanese also grow them. Every day when I come home from work, I go out to take care of the vegetables and fruits. However, since the land is limited and can only grow a certain amount of vegetables, I still have to buy more from the supermarkets,” exclaimed Luan.

In Luan’s posts, there are also his Japanese neighbors appearing in the background. The young gardener chats happily with everyone and even gave his neighbors vegetables and fruits grown by his own hands. “People are curious about what I plant in my garden. They treat me very nicely and often give me food. I also bring them some of the vegetables that I plant and cook them some dishes as a token of gratitude,” he talked about his daily life in Japan.

Just such simple moments, but netizens left a lot of positive comments, saying how peaceful and lovely Luan's garden is. Upon hearing this, Luan just smiled and said, “I think it’s not only me but also other people that need their time and space to relax and forget all their stresses in life. For me, the most lovely time of the day is when I take care of the garden and make video clips. It makes me happy to see people supporting my videos with positive comments.”

Talking about his life in Japan, Luan shared his experience, “When I first came here, I did not know anyone, could not speak Japanese fluently, and had a lot of difficulties finding a job. I even tried quitting my job in Japan to come back to Vietnam because of the stress. But with other people’s support, I decided to stay, and my life and income gradually became more stable. It is hard and challenging for everyone to live far away from their families and hometown, but we can only try to build a better future for ourselves.”
