Strengthen cooperation between Vietnam – Myanmar
VNF - On January 4 in Hanoi, the Embassy of Myanmar in Vietnam held a reception to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Myanmar.
Speaking at the ceremony, Myanmar Ambassador to Vietnam Kyaw Soe Win emphasized that Myanmar and Vietnam are two countries in Southeast Asia with similarities in history and culture. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1975, the two countries have maintained a close relationship based on solidarity, traditional friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding. In particular, in recent years, the two countries' relations have seen new developments in many fields of cooperation.

In particular, Vietnam has now become the ninth largest trading partner and the seventh foreign investor in Myanmar; Two-way trade between the two countries reached about USD 500 million. Ambassador Kyaw Soe Win believes that with the determination of the two governments and businesses, Vietnam and Myanmar will achieve the goal of USD 1 billion two-way trade by 2020.
On this occasion, Ambassador Kyaw Soe Win would like to thank the Government and people of Viet Nam for their continuous support for the independence and development of Myanmar. At the same time, he hopes that Vietnam will continue to stand side by side with the people of Myanmar in the next stages.
At the ceremony, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha also sent the warmest congratulations to the Government and people of Myanmar and expressed his joy at the great achievements that the Government and people of Myanmar achieved. The minister believed that the people of Myanmar would continue to achieve greater achievements in the coming time.

Over the past 70 years, the friendship and co-operation between the two Governments and people has been more and more deepened, manifested by the fact that the two countries have upgraded the relationship to " comprehensive cooperation "during the state visit to Myanmar by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in August 2017.
In addition, economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries in recent years has developed very actively. Minister Tran Hong Ha hoped that in 2018 and in the years to come, two-way trade would continue to increase, commensurate with the potential and strength of the two countries. At the same time, the number of projects and investment capital of Vietnam in Myanmar will quickly surpass the number of 70 projects with total registered capital of nearly $ 1.5 billion. In addition, cooperation in other fields such as national defense, security, agriculture, tourism, education and culture has also been strengthened.
Minister Tran Hong Ha hoped that the two countries would continue to promote the tradition of close cooperation and mutual support at regional and international forums, especially within the framework of the United Nations, ASEAN and sub-regional mechanisms such as CLMV, ACMECS, GME, EWEC. He also emphasized that the comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Myanmar will continue to be strengthened and promoted for the benefit of the two peoples, contributing to maintain peace, stability and cooperation and prosperity in the region and in the world.
