General Nguyen Tan Cuong welcomed Lieutenant General Álvaro López Miera and the delegation of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba to Vietnam to attend the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day and the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024.
At the meeting, Cuong emphasized the special significance of the visit in the context that the two countries have just celebrated the 64th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the 68th anniversary of the landing of the Granma and the establishment of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces.

Vietnam and Cuba are two socialist countries with a traditional and close friendship. The relationship tempered in the face of all the challenges of the times, has developed more and more positively, going into depth and substance in many fields, becoming an exemplary, pure, faithful, and rare relationship in international relations.
Expressing sympathy for the difficulties that the Cuban people are facing, Cuong affirmed that the Party, State, Army and people of Vietnam are always ready to support Cuba in their abilities. He emphasized that defense cooperation is an important part of the relationship between the two countries, achieving many positive results under the attention of senior leaders of the two sides. He will continue to direct agencies and units to effectively implement the agreed cooperation contents, in accordance with the conditions and capabilities of each party.

Lieutenant General Álvaro López Miera stressed the impressive achievements of the Vietnam People's Army, especially through the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024, and sent his congratulations on the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam People's Army.
Miera also gave an overview of the situation in Cuba and affirmed that the close relationship between the two countries' militaries is a precious heritage laid by President Ho Chi Minh and President Fidel Castro. He hoped that in the coming time, the armies of the two countries would continue to promote more and more practical and effective cooperation.
