“The tale of Kieu” has additional Russian version

On November 6th, the bilingual Vietnamese-Russian version of “TruyenKieu” (The tale of Kieu) by poet Nguyen Du will make its debut in Hanoi.

This is a part of the activities to mark the 250th anniversary of the prominent poet, Nguyen Du’s birth (1766-2016).

The Russian version of “The tale of Kieu” will be jointly launched by the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences and the Ha Tinh provincial People’s Committee.

“The tale of Kieu” has been translated into Russian since 2013, based on the revised version by Professor of Literature Nguyen ThachGiang, which has been reprinted seven times in Vietnam.

The translation project was carried out by Russian and Vietnamese scholars such as MA of Literature, Nguyen Huy Hoang, translators Doan TuHuyen and Vu The Khoi, poet, Vasili Popov and Assoc. Prof Linguistics. AnatoliSocolov.

“The tale of Kieu” is an epic poem in Vietnamese, and is widely regarded as the most significant work of Vietnamese literature.

The work was recognised by the World Peace Council as one of the world's most celebrated cultural works in 1965./.
