Zhi-Shan Foundation Hosts Bookcases Donation Ceremony in Hue

On April 22, the Zhi-Shan Foundation handed over 125 bookcases to 13 preschools and primary schools in Phu Loc district (Hue) on the occasion of the 3rd annual Vietnam's Day of Books and Reading Culture.

On this occasion, Zhi-Shan Foundation handed over 125 classroom bookcases to 13 preschools and primary schools in Phu Loc district. The total implementation budget is VND 250 million (about US $9,800) of which Zhi-Shan supports VND 188 million while the schools' counterpart funds the remaining VND 62 million.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hoang Trong Thuy, Chief Representative of Zhi-Shan Foundation in Vietnam, congratulated the Phu Loc district on the achievements in reading culture development. For example, the number of friendly libraries meeting standards increased, the model of classroom bookcases in schools was widely spread; the project received the awareness and the approval of the pedagogical council in many schools, enhancing knowledge and skills for students.... Thuy believes that Phu Loc district will overcome difficulties to promote a more effective reading movement in schools.

In response, Cai Cam Huong, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Phu Loc district, expressed her sincere gratitude for the practical support from the Zhi-Shan Foundation over the past 5 years. Huong hopes that the district will continue to receive support from the organization in the future.

"Over 5 years of developing the reading culture in primary and secondary schools in Phu Loc district in 2018-2023, the number of libraries achieving the title of advanced and excellent library at all levels has increased every year, up to now, 10/20 libraries at the elementary level have achieved such title, a rate of 50% (an increase of 22.5% compared to 2018). Also, 2/20 libraries achieved the title of excellent library, a rate of 10% (an increase of 10% compared to 2018). 16/17 secondary school libraries meet standards, accounting for 94.1%. Reading activities have become a routine, students are passionate about reading, and can practice basic learning skills... which contributes greatly to improving the quality of education in Phu Loc district," said Cai Cam Huong.

In the past 5 years, Zhi-Shan has supported preschools, primary schools, and secondary schools in the Phu Loc district to establish 26 friendly libraries, and more than 300 classroom bookcases. It also provides technical and equipment support to help schools effectively organize reading activities, bringing reading opportunities to thousands of students every year.

Phu Loc district is currently one of the most effective units implementing reading activities. It is also a unit that regularly welcomes many delegations from the central to local levels to study the model of organizing reading activities.
