(VNF) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his spouse and the high-level delegation of Vietnam successfully concluded their offcial visit to Thailand. The visit takes place from August 17-19 at the invitation of Thai PM Prayuth Chan-ocha.

This is the first official visit to Thailand by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in his capacity as the Head of Government.

During the talks between PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Thai counterpart, the two leaders agreed to enhance all-level delegation exchanges and effectively implement cooperation mechanisms in addition to soon organising the third meeting of the joint committee on bilateral cooperation, the third foreign minister-level meeting, the third meeting of the joint committee on trade, and particularly the fourth joint cabinet meeting.

Both sides vowed efforts to raise bilateral trade to 20 billion USD by 2020 and support each other to become centres for investment and trade in the region. They agreed to foster rice-related cooperation and provide favourable conditions for Vietnamese and Thai rice to access each other’s market.

Pichet Durongkaveroj, Thailand’s Minister for Social and Economic Affairs said, this would help to promote not only Vietnam and Thai Land economies, but also other economies in ASEAN region. He met, discussed and agreed with Minister Truong Minh Tuan on promoting closer cooperation in the field of post and telecommunication, network security, encouraging start up businesses to participate in economic development.

In order to promote economic cooperation between the two countries, the two sides agreed to speed up multi-modal transportation including road, sea and air.

During this visit, the PM and Thai Deputy Prime Minister Prajin Juntong spoke at the Vietnam-Thailand Economic Cooperation Forum in Bangkok and witnessed the signing of co-operation agreements between the two countries' businesses.

Speaking to more than 500 enterprises participating in the Forum, the Prime Minister suggested businesses about investments opportunities in Vietnam. The Prime Minister said that this is a ripe time for Thai investors to become strategic partner of Vietnam.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc Vietnamese overseas in Thailand

During the visit, the Prime Minister spent a lot of time to meet, visit and encourage the overseas Vietnamese community in Bangkok and Nakhon Phanom province. The PM affirmed that the overseas Vietnamese community in general and the Vietnamese community in Thailand in particular are an integral part of the whole nation.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc's official visit to Thailand has opened a new chapter in the Vietnam-Thailand strategic partnership for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
