Nguyen Van Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee on September 8^th worked with Douglas Barners, United Kingdom Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh city who came to Quang Ninh province to exchange cooperation in infrastructure projects, especially the Quang Ninh airport project.

According to Mr. Thanh, the Quang Ninh airport is a strategic project which is expected to promote development in northern Vietnam, including Quang Ninh province and its Van Don economic zone. The project, which belongs to national planning, was adopted by the Government. At present, the province is choosing investors.

As planned, the Quang Ninh airport is a domestic airport allowed to receive international flights .

The project is expected to be inaugurated this year with an investment of nearly VND7.5 trillion. When completed in 2018, the airport will be capable of receiving 2 million passengers per year, with the capacity is expected to be increased to 5 million passengers and 30,000 tons of goods per year by 2030.

During the meeting, Mr. Thanh said he hoped the UK consulate general in Ho Chi Minh city would be a bridge, linking Quang Ninh province and UK organizations and enterprises.

Confirming the long-term cooperation relationship between the UK and Vietnam, Mr. Douglas Barners said that UK enterprises and investors wanted to seek investment opportunities in Vietnam in perse areas, including oil, finance, production and infrastructure.

The Consulate General showed his attention to the Quang Ninh airport project and other infrastructure constructions, adding that he hoped to bring opportunities of cooperation to UK enterprises, and that he would assist the province’s projects in public-private partnership (PPP) model./.
