Vesak 2022: Pagodas Happy to Celebrate Buddha Festival After Two-year Hiatus
Many monks and nuns in Ho Chi Minh City arrived at Viet Nam Quoc Tu to attend the Great Buddha's Birthday in 2022. |
The ceremony welcomed dignitaries from the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Ho Chi Minh City Buddhist Sangha, representatives of other religious groups, Ho Chi Minh City's government, monks, and nuns in the city.
The main part of the ceremony was divided into:
- Ring the Prajna drum and bell to celebrate the Buddha's birth
- Incense remembrance
- Chanting to celebrate Buddha's birthday
- Dedication ceremony
- Release pigeons
Most Venerable Thich Tri Quang, Acting Supreme Patriarch of the Patronage Council of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, said: "Buddha taught all dharmas arose in dependence upon other dharmas. Accordingly, humans are responsible for each of their thoughts and actions to protect the beauty of the planet. They play a decisive role in the prosperity and future of the universe that we are living in. Practicing Precepts - Concentration - Wisdom is our responsibility to ourselves, to others, to human life, and to society."
"This year's Vesak comes in a joyful atmosphere after two years of hiatus. The Covid-19 pandemic brought about social distancing at different levels. Right now, Buddhists must further promote the tradition of protecting the country and the people, accompanying the nation."
After the main ceremony, Buddhists welcomed the Buddha's birthday and pray for family and relatives' peace and happiness.
