It measures the opportunities for women and girls to develop leadership capabilities in 33 countries across the Asia-Pacific region, based on seven key areas including education, economy, health, protection, voice and participation, laws and policies, and climate action.

The GLI 2024 results highlight Vietnam’s continued leadership in the region, demonstrating significant and steady progress across multiple critical areas.

Specifically, Vietnam is one of three countries to achieve a perfect score (1.0) in the Laws and Policies Index, reflecting its advanced legal framework that comprehensively protects and promotes the rights of women and girls.

Vietnam ranks second in the region (after Singapore) in the Voice and Participation Index, showcasing the increasing presence of women in legislative and executive bodies.

Notably, Vietnam has the highest proportion of female members of parliament in the Asia-Pacific region, reaching 30.26%, according to results presented at the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference in November 2024.

Vietnam maintains strong and stable performance in the Health Index, thanks to investments in reproductive healthcare, nutrition, and mental well-being for women and girls.

In the Protection Index, Vietnam has made significant progress in combating gender-based violence. Domestic violence cases decreased by 20% in 2024 (according to the Ministry of Public Security), highlighting the effectiveness of prevention programs and victim support services.

Vietnam recorded the highest score increase in the region and leads in the Climate Action Index, with a commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 9% by 2030 and accelerating renewable energy projects to ensure a green and sustainable future.

According to Plan International Vietnam, these achievements serve as strong evidence of the country’s unwavering efforts to promote gender equality, empowering women and girls to reach their full potential.
