On January 10, the Department of Education and Training of Ha Giang province, in collaboration with Plan International Vietnam, organized a workshop to review the project "Ensuring Adolescent Girls Learn and Stay Protected from Sexual and Gender-based Violence during Covid-19".
Speaking at the workshop, Lam The Hung, deputy head of the Ha Giang Department of Education and Training, recalled when the project was inspired and implemented. Covid-19 had just passed, and the socio-economic situation in the community as well as in schools in Ha Giang, which was already difficult, became even more difficult. In that context, based on the practical requirements, there needs to be timely and practical measures and actions to protect children in that emergency context as well as prepare for similar situations in the future.
According to Hung, the results achieved from the project are not only urgent at the present time but also the foundation for sustainable development of child support services in the locality.
In the discussion, Le Thi Tho, deputy head of the Meo Vac district's Department of Education and Training shared, “The contents of the project such as promoting to prevent gender-based violence, violence in the school environment or improving the quality of the school counseling room model are all part of the educational mission of schools and our education sector. The project's support is to assist us to do our job better. Therefore, even when the project has ended, we will continue to apply and deploy these results, knowledge, and skills in the coming years to promote."
Tho affirmed schools in Meo Vac will strive to maintain and expand valuable lessons from the project to create a safer and more equitable learning environment for students.

Implemented from March 2023 to February 2025 in Yen Minh and Meo Vac districts of Ha Giang province with funding from Beiersdorf Group through Plan International Germany, the project aims to improve knowledge and capacity for adolescents, support them to access education, thereby preventing gender-based violence. At the same time, the project also focuses on supporting schools and local communities to improve the learning environment towards equality and child-friendly, helping children confidently continue going to school after the Covid-19 pandemic.
In two years of implementation, the project's activities have brought about many remarkable results with more than 110 education officials and local authorities directly participating; 5,540 parents, and 4,199 students benefiting from communication and education programs. In particular, 237 teachers, including 142 core teachers, have been trained in communication skills and student psychological support.
In addition, three schools in Lao Va Chai, Lung Pu, and Giang Chu Phin have had new toilets built, while all eight schools in the project have also been supported to renovate classrooms and toilets in parallel with upgrading facilities such as roofs, accommodation areas, and additional learning equipment.
