Hang made the statement at a regular press conference in Hanoi on September 12 while responding to reporters’ queries regarding the CPJ’s report that included Vietnam in the list of ten most censored countries.

“In Vietnam, the freedom of speech in general and the freedom of the press in particular are prescribed specifically in the 2013 Constitution and many relevant legal documents,” she affirmed.

Vietnam has tried to improve its legal system to protect freedom of speech on the press, cyber space and other forms, especially shielding the public against fake news and inappropriate information in contrary to Vietnam’s fine tradition and customs as well as provocative and hatred distorted information, Hang added.
