With current production capacity and technology level, Vietnam is among the 10 biggest producers of construction ceramics and has the fourth largest ceramic tile output, VNA citied Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh.

Ceramics is one of the construction materials that plays an important role in every construction project, contributing to the development of the construction industry in particular and the economy in general. The ceramic industry contributes more than USD 3 billion to Vietnam’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) annually.

The Deputy Minister said that over the past years, the government, ministries, sectors have issued legal documents, plans, strategies to promote the development of construction materials, including ceramics, during 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

Localities have also actively attracted investment in the industry, while manufacturers increased investment in many new projects.

Experts assess that in the past 20 years, Vietnam's construction ceramics industry has developed strongly in both quantity and quality.

Regarding the field of ceramic tiles, in 1994, in Vietnam there was only one ceramic tile production line with a capacity of 1 million m2/year invested at Huu Hung Construction Ceramics Company under Viglacera Corporation with a production line designed equipment from Italy's WELKO.

Up to now, with the strong participation of dozens of manufacturers such as PRIME Group, Viglacera, MIKADO, CMC, NICE CERAMIC, among others, has contributed to increasing the total capacity of Vietnamese ceramic tiles, including ceramic tiles, granite and cotto tiles. reaching over 800 million m2 a year.

In the past two decades, the construction ceramic industry in Vietnam has made strong progresses in both quality and quantity, with total capacity of ceramic tile production, including porcelain, granite and cotto tiles, surpassing 800 million sq. m a year, and that of sanitary ware 26 million units a year. Most sanitary wares production facilities have modern, synchronous technology, high level of automation, reaching world advanced level.

From 2015 until now, new investment lines have a design capacity of 0.6-1.2 million products/year. Along with the rapid growth in output, Vietnam's production technology for construction ceramic products has also made rapid progress, helping to improve productivity, quality and product diversification.

Currently, in terms of shaping tile products, some production facilities have used continuous rolling technology (Continua+ technology) to create flat panel products with large sizes of over 5m2 a panel; Using digital color enamel printing technology for products with quality and aesthetics.

In the technology of heating sheet products, many factories have used large-capacity roller furnaces with high energy efficiency and low emissions. Sanitary ceramic production facilities also improve technology and increase the level of automation in the production line, so they have low consumption of raw materials, fuel, and energy.

Vietnam’s ceramic and tile producer Viglacera has been named among the top 22 ceramic tile producers globally by the Ceramic World Review in terms of output as of December 31, 2021.
