Vietnam Applauded by UN for Water Resource Management
From July 1-7, at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the program's mission is to elect the FAO Director-General for the 2023-2027 period and to hold high-level roundtables around the theme of integrated water resources management.
The member country representative were Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers, and Deputy Ministers of relevant sectors. The Vietnamese delegation was led by Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Duong Hai Hung, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to FAO, and representatives of the Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development, Investment Planning, and Finance.

FAO Ministerial Conference, which takes place every 2 years, is responsible for approving the overall program and budget for the next two years, making recommendations on issues of food and agriculture, and considering global governance policy issues. |
In his remarks, Singapore's Coordinating Minister for Social Policy and Co-Chair of the United Nations Global Commission on Water Resources Economics Tharman Shanmugaratnam emphasized the need to enhance water resources management efficiency that allies with the global poverty reduction, climate, and environmental goals can.
Water is a fundamental component of agricultural systems but is facing increasing challenges. Water scarcity, drought, flooding, and water pollution are all undermining global efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The data shows that more than 3 billion people live in agricultural areas with severe water shortages or shortages, while around 1.2 billion people live in areas with a high frequency of drought.
He also used the successful innovation in Vietnam called VnSAT as an example of reducing water usage in farming by using sensors and innovative irrigation practices. The VnSAT project supports farmers with an economical irrigation system (drip irrigation and sprinkler irrigation). It has brought great results when put into use in agricultural cultivation, helping local people effectively save money and time when farming.
The election of the new FAO Director-General took place by secret ballot on July 2. Qu Dongyu was re-elected to a second term as Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). In the ballot by FAO member countries, Qu received a total of 168 out of 182 votes deposited. The incumbent Director-General from China was first elected in June 2019.

On 23 June 2023, the Viet Nam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) collaborated with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to launch the National Strategy Strengthening of the specialized veterinary management system at all levels for the period of 2021–2030 (Decision No. 414/QD-TTg). The ultimate goals of the strategy are to strengthen the capacity of the specialized veterinary management system at all levels, ensuring valid and effective implementation of veterinary activities, proper animal disease control, public health protection, and proactive global integration. |
