Vietnam attends the 19th meeting of ASEAN-Russia Joint Cooperation Committee
Ambassador Nguyen Hai Bang, Head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to ASEAN, attended the event.
At the meeting, the two sides highly appreciated the good results of cooperation in all fields. 2021 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of relations and the 25th anniversary of dialogue relations between ASEAN and Russia. The cooperation on economy, trade, and investment between the two sides has flourished over the past few years, according to the World & Vietnam Report.
In the implementation of the ASEAN-Russia Comprehensive Plan of Action (CPA) in the 2016-2020 period, 99 out of 139 lines of action have been carried out in the fields of politics, security, economy, culture-society, connectivity, and the development gap narrowing.
As of February 28, the ASEAN-Russia Dialogue Partnership Finance Fund (ARDPFF) has a total amount of $8,138,215, with an annual contribution of $1.5 million from Russia.

Russia affirmed that ASEAN is one of the top priorities of its foreign policy, emphasizing that it would support the bloc in building the community and strengthening the central role in the regional structure, cooperate, support the fight against terrorism and cross-border crime, enhance regional connectivity and narrow the development gap, simultaneously actively participate in ASEAN-led mechanisms, contributing to peace, stability, and security in the region.
ASEAN countries highly spoke of positive results of cooperation between ASEAN and Russia over the past time. The implementation of the ASEAN-Russia cooperative programs and plans have contributed to assisting the bloc to fulfill its goals of building the community and narrowing the development gap.
The proactive activities of the ASEAN Center, Moscow State Institute of International Relations have contributed to fostering exchanges and scientific cooperation between Russian universities, research centers and ASEAN countries.
Amidst the complicated development of the Covid-19, the two sides asserted that it is necessary to strengthen close collaboration to effectively respond to the pandemic as well as to promote a comprehensive and sustainable recovery.

In terms of the cooperative orientations in the time ahead, the two sides consented to continue deepening the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership, with the focus on aspects of mutual interest, especially ones that Russia has strengths and ASEAN has priorities such as facilitating trade and investment, cooperating science-technology, strengthening connectivity, narrowing gaps, deploying Smart City Network Initiative, developing human resources, supporting micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), beefing up cooperation in education, health care, tourism, exchanges between youngsters, preventing diseases, managing natural disasters and responding to climate change.
The two sides also underscored the necessity to accelerate and soon complete the ASEAN-Russia Comprehensive Plan of Action in the 2021-2025 period, creating an important basis for orienting the bilateral cooperation in the new period; agreed to closely cooperate in preparation for activities celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of relations and the 25th anniversary of dialogue relations between ASEAN and Russia (1996-2021).
