Vietnam Collaborates with UAE, Saudi Arabia on Quality Standards

A Vietnamese delegation led by Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat held a working session with the UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) and signed a technical cooperation agreement with the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organisation (SASO) on October 29.

At the working session, UAE’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Omar Al Suwaidi praised the collaborative relationship between the two sides and emphasized the need to promote cooperative activities in the Halal sector, building on the 2023 Memorandum of Understanding on quality measurement standards.

For his part, Minister Huynh Thanh Dat commended the mutual support between the two sides, underscoring the importance of enhanced technical assistance for the Halal Certification Center under the Directorate for Standards, Meteorology, and Quality of Viet Nam (STAMEQ), which operates under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The Minister expressed a desire to advance the exchange of experts between the two countries, viewing it as essential to developing cooperative activities. He also called for exploring opportunities for collaboration in product conformity assessments before export to meet UAE market requirements.

Minister Huynh Thanh Dat conveyed his hope for Deputy Minister Omar Al Suwaidi’s support and feedback to realize these plans in the near future.

At the headquarters of the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organisation (SASO), a ceremony was held to sign a technical cooperation agreement between Vietnam’s STAMEQ under the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology and SASO.

In discussions with SASO Governor Saad Alkasabi, Minister Huynh Thanh Dat affirmed the significant potential for cooperation between the two agencies in quality measurement standards, particularly in the Halal sector.

Under this agreement, the two sides plan to collaborate in various areas, including standards and training on standards, conformity assessment, legal and industrial metrology, testing and laboratories, calibration, information exchange, mutual recognition among conformity assessment organizations, digital transformation in quality infrastructure, and the exchange of expertise and personnel.

SASO Governor Saad Alkasabi also expressed his hope that STAMEQ and SASO would support each other to deepen and enhance the effectiveness of their cooperative activities.

Both sides are confident that signing this agreement on this special occasion will establish a foundation for STAMEQ and SASO to implement practical cooperative initiatives in the coming period, thereby contributing positively to the relations between Vietnam and Saudi Arabia.
