Vietnam Congratulates Mekong - Lancang Cooperation Anniversary
The year 2022 marks the sixth anniversary of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC). The six LMC countries, namely China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, share cultural similarities, enjoy profound traditional good neighborliness and friendship, and have closely intertwined security and development interests.
On March 25, in Nanning (China), the Guangxi Women's Union organized an exchange activity "Source of strength, towards the future" on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of LMC establishment.
Attending the event were representatives of Consulate General of countries in Nanning, officials of Guangxi Department of Foreign Affairs, female teachers, students and representatives from Guangxi and Mekong - Lancang countries.
At the welcoming remark, Ms. Luu Vinh Mai, President of the Guangxi Women's Union, said that by laying the foundation of the LMC six years ago, the Union has successfully organized several people-to-people exchanges that formed an organizing mechanism of annual national-level cultural forum and shows.

They included three "Forum of Women in China-ASEAN region" events, two national cultural performances for public welfare, nine exchanges and visits; a comprehensive platform for high-level exchanges, economic and trade cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between Chinese women and the Mekong countries.
Thanks to the LMC, more than 200 women from the Mekong countries were provided with various forms of training in poverty alleviation and development; established a regular exchange mechanism with 5 provincial Women's Unions in Vietnam and Laos, more than 120 "border shelters for women and children".
The LMC has helped bolster the economies and social development of the sub-regional countries and enhance the well-being of their people, according to the Guangxi Women's Union.
This regional mechanism has played an important role in building a community with a shared future of peace and prosperity in the sub-region.
For the past six years, the countries had worked together to provide practical operation in areas such as border trade, AIDS and drug abuse prevention, combating women and children trafficking in women and children, building a Mekong - Lancang women's cooperation model including information exchange trust, share resources and learn from each other.
