On July 8, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang had a working session with Anoulack Chanthivong, Minister of Industry and Trade of New South Wales, Australia.
At the meeting, Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang appreciated the sustainable and comprehensive relationship between Vietnam and Australia, marked by the two sides officially upgrading their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership on the occasion of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Australia in March 2024.

The Deputy Minister affirmed that Australia is an important and comprehensive partner in which the fields of trade, industry and energy are considered pillars of cooperation.
In this relationship, New South Wales plays a prominent role, being the state with the largest import-export turnover among Australia's states and territories with Vietnam, accounting for about 16% of total bilateral import and export turnover.
At the meeting, Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang proposed specific cooperation contents, related to the fields of high-tech agriculture, energy, building value chains for agricultural products, food and beverages. |
Minister Chanthivong shared that the ASEAN region, including Vietnam, was the first partner he selected for his overseas business trip as Minister for Industry and Trade of New South Wales.
The Minister expressed his impression with the strong development of Vietnam's economy, especially after reform. As the settlement of thousands of overseas Vietnamese, the Minister believes in the cooperation and connection of the State of New South Wales with Vietnam in many fields such as trade, minerals, agriculture, science and technology, finance, education and training for the common prosperity.
Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang reviewed the vibrant cooperation between the State of New South Wales and Vietnam in the fields of agriculture, canned food, pharmaceuticals, and educational services.
Agriculture and food are typical examples when New South Wales is an important supplier to Vietnam of red meat products, raw meat (especially beef), and fresh fruits (apples, cherries).
The Deputy Minister proposed many specific cooperation contents, such as asking the state of New South Wales to share experience and techniques in high-tech agriculture, building value chains for agricultural products, food and beverages in regional and global supply chains.
She proposed that the State encourage cooperation in the field of training with a system of universities and colleges, and invest in Vietnam to produce raw materials for the pharmaceutical, and functional food industries.
Minister Chinthavong appreciated the cooperation proposals of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
He said that New South Wales is ready to coordinate closely in realizing these proposals, especially for the State's strong areas such as minerals, and renewable energy development, thereby supporting Vietnam in implementing the goal of "Net zero."
On this occasion, Minister Chinthavong expressed his thanks to the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam for extending the rice export license for a subsidiary of SunRice Group, Australia's number one food producer and exporter.
Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang hopes that, with the Minister's attention, the trade-industry-energy cooperation relationship between New South Wales in particular, Australia and Vietnam will grow stronger, worthy of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
