To contribute to poverty reduction, the VFF Committee in Phu Duong commune, Hue city, and other organizations have mobilized the support from businesses and donors to build 11 houses and upgrade 10 others with funding amounting to nearly 500 million VND ($19,665), and presented scholarships to disadvantaged students.

The committee and its member organizations have launched multiple activities such as helping poor members access loans to finance their production and stabilize their lives.

Nguyen Thi Nu, from Luu Khanh village, Phu Duong commune, said with the preferential loans, she has invested in livestock breeds and farm machinery, adding her family and others in the commune have received husbandry and cultivation training.

Thanks to the joint efforts, the number of poor households in Phu Duong dropped to 32, and near poor households dropped to 89.

Over the past time, the VFF Committee in Hue city has raised funds of over 8 billion VND for the poor, built and upgraded 204 houses, and supported more than 4,000 poor residents and children.

Meanwhile, nearly 5 billion VND has been collected to assist victims of natural disasters, diseases and other emergency cases.

Hoang Tan Ninh, President of the VFF Committee in Hue city, said all-level VFF Committees in the city have viewed social welfare and caring for the poor as a key, regular task, and that they have provided consultations for local Party Committees and authorities in building programs and plans for the poor.

Attention has been paid to the communications work, the organization of training courses, and support for the poor to access preferential loans, he continued.

According to Ninh, the VFF Committee in Hue will continue mobilizing the support from agencies, businesses and people to the poor, contributing to successfully implementing the national target program on sustainable poverty reduction.
