Vietnam - Malaysia Boost Friendship Through Voluntary Works

The Malaysian Embassy in Vietnam, the Vietnam - Malaysia Friendship Association, and the Association for the Support of Vietnamese Handicapped and Orphans have coordinated to give 230-million-dong gifts to orphans at the Lang Son Hope Center (Huu Lung, Lang Son).

Joining the charity delegation was Malaysian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam Dato' Tan Yang Thai; Ngo Sach Thuc, Chairman of the Association for the Support of Vietnamese Handicapped and Orphans, Chairman of the Vietnam - Malaysia Friendship Association.

At the event, the Malaysian Embassy in Vietnam awarded 30 prizes worth VND 200 million; the Vietnam - Malaysia Friendship Association and the Association for the Support of Vietnamese Handicapped and Orphans donated VND 30 million in cash to orphans at Lang Son Hope Center. Many essential items such as ceiling fans, bicycles, computers, TVs in the Center's public rooms, school bags, and toiletries were sent to the children by the volunteer group.

The volunteer group joined hands with children at the Center to clean up their living space.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Dato' Tan Yang Thai said that the Malaysian Embassy in Vietnam is committed to supporting orphans and communities in need.

"Our pledge is to continue backing such initiatives, aiming for a lasting impact.," he said.

Ngo Sach Thuc acknowledged the kindness of units and benefactors towards orphans in the difficult mountainous areas of Lang Son. He said Vietnam and Malaysia have many cultural similarities. The Vietnam - Malaysia Friendship Association has set goals and commitments to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the two peoples. This humanitarian charity program not only symbolizes the strong solidarity between the two peoples but also highlights the power of compassion and solidarity in bringing positive changes to the community.

He stated that this practical activity contributes to enhancing understanding and sharing in people-to-people diplomacy, enhancing the social responsibility of businessmen to the community, and strengthening solidarity, friendship, and development.

Lang Son Hope Center is a non-public social protection facility, established in May 2019. It receives, nurtures and cares for orphans in special circumstances for social and charitable purposes; helping children improve their living conditions, continue to go to high school, develop mentally and physically, have a healthy personality, and receive equal opportunities to other children in society. Currently, the Center is nurturing 30 children.

According to Nguyen Trung Chat, Director of Lang Son Hope Center, orphans are raised and cared for at the Center and continue to go to school until they graduate high school. Based on each child's academic results and development ability, the Center will send them to college, university, vocational training, or to the community.

Since the Center was established, 1 child has earned a master's degree, 12 have graduated from university, 35 have graduated from college. The rest have completed vocational training before leaving the Center.
