Japanese Embassy in Vietnam to open condolence books for late PM Abe Shinzo

The Embassy of Japan in Vietnam has announced it will open a condolence book for late Prime Minister Abe Shinzo from 9am to 5:15pm on July 11 and 12.

The venue will be the embassy's headquarters at 27 Lieu Giai street, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi. People coming to pay respect are requested to bring their identity cards to present when entering and exiting the embassy, cited WVR.

The former leader passed away at Nara Medical University in Nara prefecture on July 8. Earlier the same day, he was shot from behind while campaigning for a candidate of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in the prefecture.

Abe, 67, was Japan's longest-serving prime minister. He served as Prime Minister from 2006 to 2007 and again from 2012 to 2020.

Covid-19: national caseload rises to 10,754,813 on July 10

The national caseload of Covid-19 reached 10,754,813 on July 10, according to the Ministry of Health.

A total 8,477 Covid-19 patients were given the all clear on the day, bringing the number of recoveries so far to 9,764,864. There are 17 patients in serious conditions needing breathing support, according to VNA.

No death from Covid-19 was recorded in the past 24 hours. The total fatalities stood to 43,089.

On July 9, 371,697 doses of vaccines were administered, raising the total number of doses of Covid-19 vaccines injected to 235,551,915.

Domestic petrol market to fall sharply on July 11

The retail prices of petrol in Vietnam are expected to dive sharply next week after consecutive hikes over the past months.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance will jointly announce a periodical adjustment on the retail prices of petrol on July 11, and the prices are anticipated to fall by nearly VND 3,000 per litre to below VND 30,000 per litre.

According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade updated on July 5, the average petrol price in the Singapore market dropped sharply. Petrol RON92 cost more than US$139 /barrel, while petrol RON95 was capped at more than US$147/barrel.

Similarly, oil prices also decreased compared to the most recent adjustment, reported VOV.

The National Assembly Standing Committee last week approved the Government’s proposal to further axe the environmental protection tax on petrol and oil, starting at 00.00 on July 11.

A representative of a petrol and oil enterprise in Hanoi forecast that the price of petrol may decrease by nearly VND3,000 per litre, while that of oil may decrease at a lower level, about VND2,000 per litre.

As a result, the domestic petrol price is likely to fall to below VND30,000 per litre, and the new price level is likely to come into effect as of 00.00 on July 11 instead of 15.00 (local time) as normal.

Ho Chi Minh City seeks to strengthen cooperation with foreign missions

Vo Van Hoan, Vice-chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has highlighted the role of foreign mission representatives to the city’s achievements in Covid-19 prevention and control.

At a reception for foreign mission representatives held by the Municipal People’s Committee on July 8, the official expressed his gratitude for their positive contributions to the fight against the pandemic, contributing to the city’s socio-economic outcomes during the first half of this year.

Congratulating the Service Company to Foreign Mission (FOSCO) on its 43rd founding anniversary, Hoan spoke highly of the performance of the company, especially in providing services to consular delegations, international and non-governmental organizations, foreign economic representative offices, helping realize the external relations work of the city.

Addressing the event, Kho Ngee Seng Roy, Consul General of Singapore in Ho Chi Minh City and Head of the Consular Delegation in the city, thanked FOSCO for supporting diplomatic missions and foreign organisations to work in Vietnam. He believed that the relations between foreign diplomatic agencies and FOSCO as well as the city’s administration will further develop in the future for mutual benefit, WVR reported.

According to Le Thi Hong Hau, Chairman of FOSCO’s Board of Members, over the past 43 years, the company has provided various types of services to diplomatic agencies, international and non-governmental organizations and representative offices of foreign economic organizations in HCM City and other localities in the south of Vietnam.

In addition to guiding foreign organizations to strictly observe Vietnamese laws and creating favorable conditions for them to have a safe and effective working environment, FOSCO has contributed to the city’s success in the implementation of foreign policy, she said.

Music gala awakens Da Nang tourism potential

A music gala Take Me To The Sun took place at the Sun Wheel Square of Asia Park in Da Nang on July 9 evening in an effort to popularise local tourism.

The program is part of the Enjoy Da Nang Summer Festival 2022 aimed at revitalizing tourism services and stimulating the night-time economy in Da Nang after two years of Covid-19 disruptions.

The gala choreographed by director Hoang Nam brought together pop stars, rappers and rockers such as Thu Minh, Tung Duong, Karik, OlyC along with rock band Ngu Cung. The artists brought to the audience many different emotions, through a variety of music genres, from gentle to rock.

The highlight of the gala night was a 15-minute fireworks display that lit up Da Nang’s night skies that was reminiscent of spectacular fireworks displays during the International Fireworks Festival on the Han River in summers before the start of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The music gala night was co-hosted by the Da Nang municipal Department of Tourism and Sun Group.

The organizers said they will continue to hold Sun Fest Street Carnival nights every Saturday and Sunday to promote Da Nang as a major tourist attraction in Vietnam.
