Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan said that for many years, Ho Chi Minh City has been an important partner of Thai investors.

In terms of trade, the total import-export turnover between Ho Chi Minh City and Thailand in 2021 has reached more than US$2.8 billion. By the end of 2021, Thailand has about 235 projects with a total capital of more than US$482 million, ranking 12th out of 116 countries and investing territories in Ho Chi Minh City.

Thai businesses invest a lot in mechanical engineering, chemicals, food, building materials, tourism, warehousing services, and logistics.

Every year, Ho Chi Minh City welcomes Thai businessmen to explore business and cooperation opportunities in the city.

With international economic integration, Ho Chi Minh City aims to restore the economy, strengthen growth and sustainable development. The city also has a focus on the opportunities from ASEAN's agreements with partners.

According to statistics, Thailand is currently a major economic partner of Vietnam and the 9th largest foreign investor in Vietnam with more than 600 projects with a total value of more than US$13 billion.

Thailand is Vietnam's largest trading partner in ASEAN, with a two-way turnover of US$19.5 billion in 2021, and US$5 billion in the first quarter of 2022. The two countries aim to increase trade turnover to US$25 billion by 2025.

According to Phan Chi Thanh, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand, Ho Chi Minh City is the 4th destination of the delegation in the journey through 5 provinces and cities that are major economic centers of the North, Central and South regions, including Da Nang, Quang Nam , Kien Giang, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

This is the first time the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand has led a delegation of Thai businesses of Vietnamese origin to Vietnam, to connect investment, trade and tourism with Vietnamese businesses, fostering economic cooperation between Vietnamese and Thailand local.

At the forum, delegates said that the potential for cooperation in investment, trade and tourism between Vietnam and Thailand is still large if the direct economic connection between localities and between businesses can be strengthened.

Ho Van Lam, chairman of the Thailand-Vietnam Business Association, HCM City to continue organizing promotion events to enable Thai major groups, enterprises, people and Vietnamese expats to seek partnership with those in the city. At the same time, the city must provide information regarding investment incentives and procedures for Thai investors and traders on a regular basis, he added.

A number of recommendations to boost trade and investment between Thailand and Ho Chi Minh City wer put forward at a forum held in the southern city on July 8.

Nguyen Van Minh, Thailand-Vietnam Business Council in Bangkok said, Vietnam and Thailand, HCMC and Thailand particularly have favorable conditions to strengthen cooperation of many products.

However, at present, Thai goods are quite popular in Vietnam while Vietnamese goods in Thailand are still limited.

According to Nguyen Van Minh, Vietnam still has specific products that the Thai market needs, or Vietnam can export to Thailand to continue exporting to other markets. Therefore, it is necessary to take advantage of the network of Vietnamese entrepreneurs in Thailand to introduce Vietnamese goods to the Thai market.
