Vietnam-US bilateral trade to surpass US$100 billion

Bilateral trade between the nation and the United States is anticipated to exceed the US$100 billion mark during the past 10 months of the year, according to the latest data released by the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

This marks the second consecutive year that two-way trade turnover has exceeded this milestone.

During the initial nine months of the year, Vietnamese exports to the US market surged by 23.7% to reach US$85.17 billion compared to the same period from last year.

There were a total of 11 groups of export commodities to the US which had a turnover exceeding US$1 billion, of which four groups raked in revenue of more than US$10 billion, including computers, electronic products and components with US$11.6 billion, as well as phones and components with nearly US$10.1 billion.

Most notably, the group of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts surpassed the textile and garment category to become the largest export group in the US market, with turnover reaching approximately US$15.1 billion, representing an annual rise of 30.17%.

The garment and textile group ranked second with US$13.87 billion, an increase of 19.36% against the same period from last year, cited VOV.

Furthermore, the US also makes up the leading major market for Vietnamese export items such as timber and wood products, seafood, means of transport and spare parts, toys, sports equipment.

At present, the US is seen as Vietnam's largest export market, accounting for 30.16% of the country's total export turnover during the first nine months of the year.

Meanwhile, the country imported goods from the US worth US$11.15 billion in the reviewed period, a decline of US$600 million on-year, with the nation enjoying a trade surplus of US$ 74.02 billion with the US.

Over 730 new Covid-19 cases reported on October 15

The national Covid-19 caseload rose to 11,492,273 with 732 new cases counted on October 15, according to the Ministry of Health.

With 289 patients given the all clear during the day, the number of recoveries rose to 10,598,733.

Meanwhile, there are 53 patients needing breathing support, according to VNA.

No death from Covid-19 was recorded in the past 24 hours. The total fatalities stood at 43,155.

Vietnam becomes third largest coffee supplier to US

Vietnam has become the third largest supplier of coffee to the US over the first eight months of 2022, reported the General Department of Customs.

The Southeast Asian nation exported 96,530 tonnes of coffee to the US in eight months, gaining US$227.46 million, up 5.2% and 35.9% in terms of volume and value over the same period last year.

Vietnam's coffee market share in the US increased from 6.27% to 6.45%, the VGP cited the source as saying.

During the January-September period, the nation earned US$3.06 billion from exporting 1.34 million tonnes of coffee, up 13.1% in volume and an increase of 37% in value against the same period last year.

Vietnam's coffee has been shipped to more than 80 countries and territories, making the country the second biggest exporter in the world, with a global market share of 14.2%.

Coffee is one of the six key currency earners with an annual revenue of over US$3 billion, reported VOV.

Its major markets are Europe, the US, Russia, Japan and the UK. In Europe, Vietnam is the second biggest coffee supplier with a market share of 16.1 percent, behind Brazil.

At present, the nation is home to 97 coffee bean processing plants with an annual capacity of 1.5 million tonnes, 160 coffee roasting, 8 instant coffee and 11 coffee blending facilities.

Vietnam Coast Guard enjoys fruitful int’l cooperation

The Vietnam Coast Guard has exerted great efforts to strengthen international cooperation in the fight against violations and crimes at sea, and actively expanded international cooperation with countries having strong law enforcement forces at sea and partners.

The improvement of international cooperation efficiency has helped the force better perform its tasks, contributing to maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for the building and protection of the Fatherland.

The force signed cooperation agreements with its counterparts in many countries in the region, including Cambodia, Indonesia and Malaysia (2019), enabling the implementation of many joint activities, including those to fight illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, according to VNA.

Along with strengthening cooperation with regional countries, the force has expanded its partnership to other countries with strong law enforcement forces at sea, including the US, Japan, India, and the Republic of Korea, mobilizing their support in equipment and training activities, thus improving its capacity.

Notably, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan Coast Guard jointly held a training course for Vietnamese coast guards in Phu Quoc from August 15-17, aiming to to improve their maritime law enforcement capacity for the Vietnam Coast Guard and enhance exchanges, cooperation and mutual understanding between the two countries in general, and the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Japan Coast Guard in particular.

Visits and exchanges between the Vietnam Coast Guard with their Indian and Japanese partners have helped enhance the prestige of the force in the region and the world.

Meanwhile, the force has shown positive and responsible engagement in multilateral mechanisms and forums, including the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP), the Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies Meeting (HACGAM), the Southeast Asia Maritime Law Enforcement Initiative (SEAMLEI), the Coast Guard Global Summit (CGGS), and activities within the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

In the time to come, the force will continue to promote partnerships with its counterparts in other countries, especially those in the region, neighboring countries and traditional partners, spreading a message of cooperation, development and integration.

Vietnamese contestant crowned Miss Intercontinental 2022

Le Nguyen Bao Ngoc, a representative of Vietnam, has triumphantly overcome 70 contestants from various countries around the world, to be crowned Miss Intercontinental 2022.

The final round of the Miss Intercontinental 2022 was officially held in Egypt on the night of October 14, with a competition of 71 contestants from various countries around the world.

Le Nguyen Bao Ngoc is the first runner-up of Miss World Vietnam 2022, leaving for the 50th Miss Intercontinental contest, held at Sunrise Diamond Beach Resort, Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

The title of first runner-up belongs to Mariela Pepin from Puerto Rico. The title of second runner-up was awarded to Brazilian contestant Cecília Almeida. Nigerian representative Joy Raimi won third runner-up.

Meanwhile, Tatjana Genrich of Germany won fourth runner-up and Venezuelan contestant Emmy Carrero won fifth runner-up, cited NDO.

In the contest, Bao Ngoc excelled in the content, especially the behaviour with excellent English presentation skills.

Le Nguyen Bao Ngoc was born on June 18, 2001, in Can Tho and is a student at the Faculty of Business Management at the International University of Ho Chi Minh City. Bao Ngoc has an IELTS score of 8.0.

She also reached the top 20 of Miss Vietnam 2020. Bao Ngoc is the most prominent contestant in the contests, in which she has participated, with a height of 1.85m.

She is also the first Vietnamese representative to be crowned Miss Intercontinental 2022.

This is the third victory of the Vietnamese representative in the Miss International arena. Before Le Nguyen Bao Ngoc, Nguyen Phuong Khanh won Miss Earth 2018 and Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien was crowned Miss Grand International 2021.
