August 28 is marked as the official Women's Day in UAE since 2014.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Vietnam Bader Almatrooshi said that the contributions of UAE women nationally and internationally have yielded impressive results over the years. Women currently make up an average of 43% of the workforce. In the policy sphere, nine UAE women serve in the Cabinet, women comprise 50% of the Federal National Council (FNC), women make up 42.5% of the diplomatic corps.

Regarding women's empowerment, the Ambassador said that Vietnam and the UAE shared many similarities and that there are many opportunities for cooperation in this field.

Earlier this year, the Embassy of the UAE in Vietnam co-organized a Business Forum in Hanoi for about 85 companies from both sides. Also, about 30 Vietnamese companies joined the UAE-based World Logistic Passport program, another highlight of this year's business cooperation in the logistics sector.

Addressing the workshop's theme "We collaborate for tomorrow," Ambassador Almatrooshi highly appreciated the work of the women-based organization WeLead – Network of Trailblazing Women Leaders Driving Change. He hoped that the workshop would enhance mutual understanding between participants from the two countries, which would contribute to creating cooperation opportunities in the coming time.

In response, WeLead's Founder and CEO Nguyen Thi Tuyet Minh shared her admiration for the UAE's policies and programs to promote gender equality. The role of women in the UAE is increasingly being enhanced across all political, economic, cultural, educational, scientific, and technological sectors, Minh said. Meanwhile, Vietnam has also made similar strides with women-owned enterprises accounting for 27.5% of the total number of enterprises nationwide.

Minh stressed that economic cooperation is an important pillar and a bright spot in the bilateral cooperation relationship between Vietnam and the UAE. Vietnamese enterprises have proactively approached the market through the annual sales fairs, exhibitions, and festivals, to export goods to the UAE, along with other Middle Eastern and European countries.

Earlier this year, WeLead's founder led a delegation of women entrepreneurs to attend the Global Summit of Women in Dubai. The delegation successfully cooperated with the Emirates Women Entrepreneurs Council to organize an event connecting businesses of the two countries in a number of fields such as agriculture, handicrafts, pharmacy, and tourism.

She hopes that the UAE Embassy in Vietnam and the UAE's economic and trade department in Vietnam will continue to support and promote economic cooperation between the two countries in general and between women-owned businesses in particular.

"WeLead is strongly committed to promoting business cooperation between businesses in our network and UAE businesses for a good future between the two countries," said Minh.

The UAE is Vietnam's largest trading partner in the Middle East, with a trade turnover of US$ 8.7 billion by 2022. Meanwhile, Vietnam is the UAE's largest trading partner in ASEAN.

More than 50 Vietnamese companies participate in the annual Gulfood exhibition in Dubai. In 2023, Vietnam and the UAE completed two rounds of negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The 5th Joint Committee Meeting is scheduled to be held in October 2023 in Hanoi, aiming to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, especially in economic development and trade.
