The UAE is the biggest trade partner to Vietnam in the Middle East with non-oil trade balance of 8.7 billion dollars recorded last year. Also, both countries are making efforts to soon finalize the negotiation and signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) within this year in a bid to create a breakthrough in economic cooperation.
Another achievement is holding a business forum in July which was attended by 80 companies from both countries.
The relations were complemented this year by the official visit to the UAE by the Vice President of Vietnam Vo Thi Anh Xuan to the UAE. One of the highlights of her trip was meeting with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE along with other officials from public and private sectors.
There were two Ministers who paid official visits to Vietnam including the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of State for Foreign Trade of the UAE Dr. Thani AlZeyoudi and another official visit of the Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam Nguyen Hong Dien to the UAE.

According to Ambassador Bader Almatrooshi, the opening of a representative office of Dubai Chamber in HCM city on the 20th of July showed that the two countries are exploring the potentiality of relations growth. Another important development is the growing partnership between Dubai-based Passport Logistics Program and many Vietnamese entities and companies that aim at expanding and enhancing logistics experience worldwide.
He believes that to expand trade exchange, especially with the qualifications the two countries possess, there is ongoing efforts by the two governments and the private sector. This would contribute to increasing bilateral trades in both quantity and quality. Many companies on different levels are exploring expanding their investments or starting new ones in the two countries. This reflects the trust and commitment to the economic relations between Vietnam and the UAE, said the foreign diplomat.
In the near future, renewable energy will be an important prospect for cooperation. The UAE also gives a big attention to food security, and many UAE leading companies in this field are exploring different options of collaboration.
While UAE logistics companies do exist in Vietnam such as Emirates Airlines and Dubai Ports World, Ambassador Bader Almatrooshi hopes this sector will see more growth, especially with logistics a big contributor to the overall bilateral trade.
As Vietnam and the UAE expect high level and active private sector engagement, he looks forward to seeing Vietnam participate in the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).
Innovation and knowledge exchange, said the UAE Ambassador, is an important aspect that the two countries are taking steps to solidify. In the future, the two governments will plan more cultural exchanges to build and maintain people-to-people connections, enhance mutual understanding and expand the scope and depth of cooperation between two peoples.
