Delivering a speech at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai emphasized that the Vietnam Executive Leadership Program ( VELP ) has become one of the most trustworthy dialogue and policy consultation programs, with exchanges and dialogue aimed at improving understanding, strengthening trust, and opening up practical cooperation opportunities between Vietnam and the United States.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam wishes to continue working closely with the United States to implement the two countries' comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development in all fields, including education and training.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam always recognizes the importance and groundbreaking role of external forces, such as policy guidance, management expertise, and human resource training. In the spirit of sincerity, trust, sharing, cooperation, and development, and an era of profound change, the Deputy Prime Minister believes that the 2024 VELP will serve to open up many strategic issues, shaping a vision with specific and practical recommendations for Vietnam.

The 2024 VELP focuses on three primary discussion aspects about the possibilities and notable changes of the global economy and the Asian economy: Assess important transformation trends and their effects on the Vietnamese economy; support new growth drivers in Vietnam, particularly innovation, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies; seek solutions to the middle-income "trap" and reform the growth model.

At the discussion sessions, professors presented their views on the success of the Vietnamese economy, believing that Vietnam has had one of the most successful transformations in the world during the last two decades. Recognizing Vietnam's potential and opportunities in participating in global supply chains in emerging technology industries, experts have made numerous specific and practical recommendations for Vietnam to seize the opportunity from new trends, especially taking advantage of attracting new investment sources that are shifting, building an ecosystem to develop emerging technologies, promoting human resource advantages in AI development, and focusing on investing in digital infrastructure.

In an exchange with experts, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai and the Vietnamese delegation shared notes on the socio-economic development situation and development priorities of the country moving forward. This is along with looking at issues of shared concerns such as opportunities and challenges in the context of the global economy currently being in a period of profound transformation.

Earlier on April 1, the Deputy Prime Minister received Professor Douglas Elmendorf, dean of Harvard Kennedy School; Professor David Golan, dean of Harvard Medical School; and professor of the Vietnam Program at Harvard University.

The Vietnamese official expressed his delight in visiting and exchanging views with leading experts from the ancient university in the United States, where many world-renowned experts and scientists were trained, as well as one of the universities that has actively increased educational ties with Vietnam.

Prof. Elmendorf stated that his school will continue to strengthen ties with Vietnam while focusing on sharing research and assessments on the international, regional, and local economies. He committed to increasing cooperation and training relations between Harvard University and Vietnam's ministries, sectors, and universities. Moving forward, Harvard will continue to support Fulbright University as a school that provides high-quality human resources for future Vietnamese development.

Regarding the VELP, he praised the two sides' long-standing relationship and expressed a desire to share new insights through policy dialogue, thereby supplementing and broadening each side's development vision in the coming time.

Prof. Golan expressed his appreciation for the cooperation programs with ten Vietnamese medical and pharmaceutical universities, stating that he will continue to devote resources to expediting the implementation of the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOU) between Harvard Medical School and the Vietnamese Ministry of Health.
