Vietnam, Wallonia-Brussels Sign 2022 -2024 Cooperative Program

The 11th session of the Permanent Inter-Committee between the Government of Vietnam and the French Community of Belgium, the Walloon Region and the French Community Commission of the Region of Brussels-Capital was held on Dec. 13-14.
The meeting was organized face-to-face in Hanoi and remotely from Brussels.
Pham Hoang Mai, Director General of the Department of External Economic Relations of Ministry of Planning and Investment and Nicolas Dervaux, Representative of the Governments of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and Wallonia in Vietnam, signed this 11th memorandum, on behalf of their respective authorities.
The 2022-2024 program covers two priority areas: Training-Development of human resources and Applied research-Industrial development, with a total of 27 projects including high-quality personnel training in health care, education-training, French language development, law, culture industry, application research, agriculture and logistics.

During the period, the Wallonia-Brussels side will fund 328 working trips and provide 188 scholarships for Vietnam.
In particular, a project on improving French and journalism skills for the Vietnam News Agency’s reporters was also approved, helping to enhance the quality of French news via training courses in Belgian universities and press agencies.
Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong spoke highly of the results in 25 joint projects in education training, health care, environment, culture and tourism between 2019-2021, contributing to Vietnam’s socio-economic development and global integration.
The Wallonia-Brussels General Delegation was set up in Vietnam in 1996. Six years later, bilateral ties continued growing well with the signing of an important agreement between the Vietnamese Government and the French Community of Belgium, the Wallonia region, and the French Community Commission of the Brussels-Capital Region (COCOF).

More than 30 high-ranking official visits have been made, helping to enhance their partnership, mutual trust, and experience sharing toward sustainable development. During the previous 10 meetings, a total of 783 projects were approved.
The two sides have given special attention to cooperation in health care, environment, new technology, tertiary education, vocational training, scientific research, culture, and the French language.
805 Vietnamese students and postgraduates received scholarships for studies in Belgium while 1,998 experts from both sides joined in exchanges. The bilateral cooperation focused on health care, environment, new technology, tertiary and vocational training, scientific research, culture and French language.
