The Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (Vietrade) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (AWEX) signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to connect and cooperate in promotional trade activities between the two sides on November 27 in Hanoi.

The event was on the occasion of the working visit of the economic and trade delegation of the Wallonia region of the Kingdom of Belgium to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from November 27 to December 1.

AWEX is the trade and investment promotion organization of the Wallonia region of Belgium. It has a network of over 100 offices abroad, including one in HCM City.

Le Hoang Tai, deputy head of the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency said that Belgium is Vietnam's 6th largest trading partner in the European Union (EU) with an import and export turnover in 2022 reaching USD 4.3 billion. Besides, Vietnam is Belgium's second-largest trade and investment partner in Southeast Asia (ASEAN).

“I hope today's meeting and signing of a letter of intent to connect and cooperate in trade promotion activities between the two sides will continue to create a foundation for the trade and investment cooperation relationship between the two sides. water, while also opening up opportunities to increase export, import, and investment between Vietnamese and Walloon businessmen," Tai emphasized.

Information at the event, AWEX CEO Pascale Delcomminette, said that the Walloon region's economic and trade delegation came to Vietnam this time with 21 businesses and organizations in the fields of construction (materials, civil engineering), digital services, food and beverages, medical equipment, industrial equipment, and industrial engineering.

They share a common desire to learn and seek cooperation opportunities with businesses and organizations in Vietnam.

Pascale expressed her impression of the dynamism and rapid growth of Vietnam's economy and the increase in the middle class.

According to Pascale, Wallonia is a vibrant economic region with strong fields such as science, aerospace, pharmaceutical production, and food processing.

Wallonia has an important geographical location, located in the center of Belgium, a country in the center of Europe, an economic area with a scale of 500 million people, bringing a lot of potential for Vietnamese businesses to promote exports, import goods, and attract investment.

In particular, after the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement was signed and took effect in 2020, it created favorable conditions to strongly promote trade and investment between the two sides.

At the end of the ceremony, the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency and the AWEX signed a letter of intent to connect and cooperate in trade promotion activities between the two countries.
