Vietnamese and Lao Women Celebrate Friendship

On the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relations and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, the Vietnam Women's Union welcomed a high-ranking delegation of the Lao Women's Union to visit and work in Vietnam from July 1 to 7.
During the visit to Da Nang and Quang Nam, the Lao Women's Union will take a look at some operating models of Women's Unions at all levels: Men's clubs pioneering in preventing and responding to violence against women and children, second mother - meeting Vietnamese mothers and Laotian students, energy saving kitchen and water filter. They also visited leaders of the party committees and local authorities; visit the Vietnam's Heroic Mother Statue, historical and cultural landmarks.
These are activities that demonstrate the desire and determination of the two Associations in improving the effectiveness of the friendship and cooperation between the women of the two countries.
That contributes to the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
The relationship between the Vietnam Women's Union and the Lao Women's Union was built early, consolidated and developed, reflected in the signing of cooperation between the two associations since the 1980s, most recently from 2017 to 2022.
According to the President of the Vietnam Women's Union, Ha Thi Nga, the Women's Unions of the two countries are always active in friendship and cooperation activities at both central and local levels, with practical significance and concrete results. That contributes to the solidarity and friendship between the peoples and women of the two countries.
The two Associations regularly exchange information on the situation of the two countries; education for members, women, especially in border areas.
They discussed the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos and shared experiences. The Vietnam Women's Union supported training for Lao Women's Union staff and Lao women to prevent and control the Covid-19 pandemic.
Currently, the Women's Union of 10 provinces of Vietnam bordering Laos have signed cooperation with 11 provinces of Laos; three borderless provinces (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Dak Lak) have signed cooperation with provinces of the same level of Laos.
Women's Unions in some provinces/cities have twinned and have cooperation activities such as Lam Dong twinned with Champasak and Bolikhamxay, Da Nang has cultural exchange activities with the Lao Consul General in the area.
Some of the main activities include exchanging experiences in women's work, consolidating and developing the Association's organization; cooperation in livelihood development, trade connection, hunger eradication and poverty reduction; vocational training, teaching basic Vietnamese to students and female officials of Laos.

At the event, a ceremony was held to award the Order of Vietnam to Laos: awarding the Third Class Independence Medal to 3 Vice Presidents of the Lao Women's Union; Second-class Labor Medal to the Department of Planning and International Cooperation, Lao Women's Union; Friendship medals to 15 collectives of the Women's Union of Laos province/city; Orders, Friendship Medals to 4 Department level officials, 1 Lao Women's Union official.
In addition, the signing ceremony of a cooperation between the Vietnam Women's Union and the Lao Women's Union took place; between the Women's Union of Hanoi and Viengchan; Women's Union of Dak Lak and Sekong.
