HCM City's Friendship Association Grants Scholarships for Cambodian Students

The Ho Chi Minh City's Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association has presented VND 500 million (USD 21,524) worth of scholarships for Cambodian students in the city, VNA reported.
Taking place at the Changtarangsay pagoda in District 3 on June 16, the get-together aimed to mark the 55th anniversary of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic relations (June 24, 1967-2022).
Addressing the gathering, Pham Hong Thuan, member of the association’s central committee, said it is an opportunity to raise youth’s awareness on the significance and importance of preserving and nurturing the countries’ solidarity and friendship.
Thuan affirmed the Vietnamese and Cambodian leaders will further highlight the significance of the traditional ties and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties and Governments, considering them a special long-term strategic relationship that needs to be preserved and passed on to the next generations.

Cambodian Consul General Sok Dareth took the occasion to thank the municipal authorities’ prompt spiritual and physical support for Cambodian students in the city.
Also at the event, the Changtarangsay pagoda presented 100 scholarships worth VND 1 million each for the students.
Elsewhere, the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak on June 17 organized a gathering in celebration of the 55th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
To cultivate the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia in general, the two provinces of Dak Lak and Mondulkiri in particular, Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Y Bier Nie emphasised that local authorities at all levels need to educate local people, especially the young generations, on the history of relations and cooperation achievements of the two countries and the two provinces in the current period.
Dak Lak has actively and proactively coordinated with Mondulkiri province, with which it shares nearly 73km of borderline, in holding meaningful activities in the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Year 2022, the official added.
Dak Lak businesses are running three rubber tree planting projects worth over USD 135 million in Cambodia’s Mondulkiri and Rattanakiri provinces.
Dak Lak and Mondulkiri have also coordinated closely in the search and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who sacrificed in the Cambodian locality during the wartime.

A delegation of HCM City's Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs recently also provided free health check-ups and medicines for impoverished overseas Vietnamese and Lao people in Vientiane, reported local news.
The programme was implemented with the coordination of the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos and and the Executive Committee of the Vietnamese Association in Vientiane.
This annual event was part of activities to respond to the Vietnam - Laos and Laos - Vietnam Year of Friendship and Solidarity 2022, and celebrate the 60th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties, and the 45th year of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation between the two countries.
During the programme, 500 people were presented gift packages worth VND 1 million (USD 43) each.
2022 is the 11th year, the city's Committee for OVs Affairs organized medical examination, medicine distribution and gift giving to expatriates and Lao people.
Such visit is an annual activity that the HCM City People's Committee assigns to the municipal Committee on OVs in the city, showing the affection and concern of the leaders and people of the city to the expatriate community with difficult circumstances living in Laos. At the same time, informing the Vietnamese in Laos about the foreign policy, the policy of great national unity and the policies of the Party and State related to overseas Vietnamese in the new situation as well as the city's achievements over the years.
Since then, it has contributed to strengthening the faith and encouraging the Vietnamese in Laos to become more and more attached to their homeland and country. It also contributed to raising public awareness of the importance of health care.
Particularly in 2021, due to the influence of the Covid-19, the HCM City's Committee on OVs had organized to give 500 gifts at La Lay International Border Gate, La Lay hamlet, A Ngo commune, Dakrong district, Quang Tri province.
