Within the framework of a business trip to Thailand, on May 11, Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Hieu worked with the Vietnamese Association in Thailand and the Thai Business Association.

Deputy Minister Pham Quang Hieu visited overseas Vietnamese in some northeastern provinces of Thailand. He discussed with leaders of localities with a large Vietnamese population, such as Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, and Udon Thani.

He also listened to suggestions from provincial leaders on strengthening cooperation at the local level to enhance trade between Vietnam and Thailand.

The representatives of the Associations reported their activities. They proposed a number of measures to maintain cohesion in the community, and strengthen the attachment to the homeland of the young generation.

The Vietnamese community in Thailand always looks to their homeland and country. They have well integrated into the local society, have good relations with the government, are respected by the Thai government and people.

Speaking at the meeting, Tran Xuan Muoi, vice president of the Association of Vietnamese people in Thailand outlined a number of directions to continue promoting the achievements of the Vietnamese in Thailand.

Accordingly, people want teachers and students to visit their homeland to arouse their attachment to the Vietnamese language.

The Thai Business Association expressed their hope that the Government through trade agreements would remove technical barriers to strengthen import and export of Vietnamese goods through official channels.

They want the Government to invest in preserving and processing agricultural products that meet quality standards.

They expect Vietnam to organize trade connection programs between overseas Vietnamese enterprises and domestic enterprises through market research activities, visits to production and processing facilities.

Deputy Minister Pham Quang Hieu appreciated the recent achievements of the Association. The Association has always been a symbol of the solidarity of not only the Vietnamese community in Thailand but also the Vietnamese community around the world.

They not only contribute to the homeland of Vietnam but also to the country and people of Thailand - their second homeland.

Deputy Minister Pham Quang Hieu affirmed that overseas Vietnamese, including Thailand, are the country's great resources.

The government always creates favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese to return home to invest and do business.

He said that currently, the trade turnover between the two countries Vietnam-Thailand has only reached US$18.5 billion, still low compared to the target of US$25 billion by 2025. He also said that the two countries have agreed to strengthen trade, and develop twin sister provinces of the two countries for effective and substantive cooperation.

On May 10 and 11, Deputy Minister Pham Quang Hieu visited the world's largest President Ho Chi Minh memorial site at May village, Nakhon Phanom province, and Khanh An Pagoda.

He visited a number of historical sites in the locality, understood the feelings of overseas Vietnamese in Thailand for President Ho Chi Minh and for the homeland of Vietnam.

The Deputy Minister suggested that people continue to encourage the young generation to learn Vietnamese and preserve the language for future generations.

On the same day, the Deputy Minister presented certificates of merit and gifts to Vietnamese associations, and overseas Vietnamese with meritorious services in two provinces of Nakhon Phanom and Udon Thani. He awarded certificates to teachers who attended the Vietnamese language training course for overseas Vietnamese teachers in 2021.

The Deputy Minister expressed his pleasure to see the strong development of Vietnamese associations in Thailand.

They have well met the needs of the people in preserving the cultural identity, teaching and learning Vietnamese, towards the homeland. They are appreciated by the Thai government, contributing to tightening the friendship between the two countries.
