The annual Nikkei Asia Prize recognizes outstanding achievements by inpiduals that contribute to the region’s sustainable development and the creation of a better future for Asia. Recipients may be an inpidual, group or organization in any Asian nation except Japan, and will each be awarded three million yen, as well as an award certificate.

This year, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Liem has been awarded the 2017 Nikkei Asia Prize in the Science and Technology category.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Liem is one of the leading pediatric surgeons in Vietnam. He has made a special contribution to pediatric endoscopic techniques and has created nine completely new surgical techniques in comparison with existing techniques in the world.

He is also known as one of the surgeons who has participated in many of the most complicated surgery to separate conjoined twins in Vietnam, bringing a new life for many twin children./.
