Vietnamese films to be screened in Australia

(VNF) - Nine Vietnamese films will be released at the Vietnamese Film Festival in Australia this month. Produced by private film companies, these films feature the themes of love, family and social problems.

The films Taxi, Em Ten Gi (Taxi Driver, What’s Your Name?), Lat Mat (Face Off), Trot Yeu (Love) and Cau Vong Khong Sac (Rainbow without colors) reveal a different view of the country’s film industry.

“Taxi, Em Ten Gi” tells story about a female taxi driver in what is usually considered a male-dominated field. The film earned VND21 billion (USD 900,000) within five days of release.

"Cau vong khong sac" depicts a family tragedy, as a mother refuses to accept her son's sexuality and his relationship with his foster brother. It focuses on the relationship between parents and their children in Viet Nam, where parents always think they have done the best for their offspring.

"Trot Yeu" is about love have become popular at the box office. The film depicts a romantic relationship involving Huy, a businessman, his wife Vy, and his lover Uyen. Huy, despite money and fame, feels lonely at home, but after meeting Uyen at his office he falls in love with her.

The Vietnamese Film Festival is organized by the Vietnamese-American Arts & Letters Association every two years to celebrate Vietnamese voices in cinema around the world. Entries are submitted by directors from Vietnam, the US, Australia, Canada and other countries.

The event attracted eight movies and 21 short films by directors from the UK, France, Germany, Japan and Vietnam in 2014.

Film screenings will begin on September 29^th at the Village Cinema Sunshine complex in Melbourne. The festival closes on October 6^th./.
