Vietnamese Justice Deputy Minister Visits Italy
The year 2023 is the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Italy, Deputy Minister of Justice of Vietnam Phan Chi Hieu believes that, with effective working results between the parties, the legal relationship between the Vietnamese Ministry of Justice and the Italian Ministry of Justice and the competent agencies of the two countries will be increasingly promoted, tightened and deepened, contributing to strengthening the legal and judicial cooperation between the two countries.

A Vietnamese delegation from the Vietnamese Ministry of Justice led by Deputy Minister Phan Chi Hieu paid a working visit to Italy from October 19-21. Participating in some working sessions of the delegation in Italy was Nguyen Thai Hoc, Counselor of the Vietnamese Embassy in Italy, VNA reported.
At a working session with the Italian Ministry of Justice, the two sides reviewed their judicial and legal cooperation, especially since the two ministries signed a Memorandum of Understanding on October 27, 2016.
To realize the MoU, the Vietnamese Ministry of Justice built a draft bilateral cooperation program for the 2023-2024 period, with specific and comprehensive cooperation plans, focusing on judicial and legal activities, management of judicial vocations, and personnel training.
Chief of the Department of Judicial Affairs Nicola Russo pledged to step up the bilateral cooperation program for the 2023-2024 period.

Both sides attended a workshop on the experience and role of the Ministry of Justice in the management of judicial occupations.
As a result of the exchange, the Vietnamese side recognized valuable experiences that need to be consulted and learned from Italy, especially in organizing the bar exam; examination, and appointment of notaries associated with each notarial practice organization; managing professions, special professional associations are the authority of the Ministry of Justice in the dissolution of professional associations under the management of the ministry.
The experience in training and appointing judicial positions, including training, appointment, recognition of practice, management of the judicial profession, and policies for specific characteristics of each profession at the Italian Ministry of Justice are very valuable and reference value for Vietnam.

The Vietnamese delegation also held working sessions with the High Council of the Judiciary, the National Council of Notaries, the International Chamber of Arbitration, the Sapienza University of Rome and the Vietnamese Embassy in Italy.
Hieu expressed his belief that the operating results during the visit will contribute to deepening ties between the two justice ministries and judicial cooperation between the two nations.
At Sapienza University, Prof. Bruno Botta, vice-rector in charge of international cooperation policies and Prof. Franco Vallocchia, vice dean of the Law Faculty received the delegation.
The delegates learned about Sapienza University, the excellent school ranked first in Italy and ranked 46th worldwide with many training specialties, including training in law.
Deputy Minister Phan Chi Hieu also introduced the Hanoi Law University and the Judicial Academy. The two sides discussed opportunities and cooperation orientations in the field of education and training in law and justice.
