In order to strengthen the substantive and effective partnership between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and Australian security and law enforcement agencies, contributing to strengthening the Vietnam - Australia Strategic Partnership, from From April 10 to 15, a high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security led by Deputy Minister Major General Nguyen Van Long, had a working visit to Australia, VNA reported.

During their stay in Australia, the Vietnamese officers had meetings with representatives from the National Emergency Management Agency at the Department of Home Affairs, Police of New South Wales and the New South Sales State Emergency Service, among others, and visited a prison in Sydney.

Their activities have opened up opportunities of cooperation in handling large-scale emergencies, ensuring traffic order and managing prisons, while contributing to deepening collaboration between the Vietnamese ministry and Australian law enforcement forces in different spheres like crime combat, immigrant management and the implementation of the agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons.

The outcomes of the visit have also helped deepen the Vietnam-Australia strategic partnership, creating an important foundation for the two countries to elevate their relations to a new height, especially in the context of the 50th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties (February 26, 1973-2023), thus contributing to maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long and the delegation also visited and worked with the Vietnamese Embassy and Consulate General of Vietnam in Australia.

The Vietnam-Australia strategic partnership is growing strongly, with two-way trade rising by nearly 27% to roughly USD 15.7 billion last year, making Australia the 7th largest trade partner of Vietnam and Vietnam the 10th biggest trade partner of Australia.

The two countries enjoy a strong, expansive, and enduring partnership in the agriculture and education sectors.

The two-way trade in agriculture, fisheries, and forestry products surpass the impressive milestone of AUD 6 billion (USD 4 billion) for the first time last year.

During the 2022-2023 fiscal year, Australia increased the supply of official development assistance to Vietnam by 18% and assisted the country in development cooperation projects, especially in improving livelihoods and clean water supply. In particular, Australia assisted Vietnam in United Nations peacekeeping missions.

As for the education sector, Vietnam is Australia’s fifth largest source market of international students with 27,000 student enrolments and over 8,000 Vietnamese undertaking an Australian qualification in Vietnam.

There are 300 training programs, which include articulation and joint-training programs between Australian and Vietnamese institutions.

More than 80,000 Vietnamese alumni who graduated from Australian education institutions are currently working in Vietnam.
