Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Pham Hung Tam expressed his delight and pride in witnessing the progress of Vietnam and the Vietnam-Australia relations over the past year. He highlighted that in 2024, Vietnam overcame numerous challenges and achieved significant milestones, including political and social stability, national security and defense assurances, and an economic growth rate exceeding 7%, placing Vietnam among the top 35 economies worldwide.
Notably, in the “World Happiness Report 2024”, Vietnam ranked 54th, rising 11 places from the previous year and officially entering the top 10 happiest countries in Asia. With these achievements, Vietnam is determined to embark on a new era of national development.
Ambassador Pham Hung Tam emphasized the remarkable progress in Vietnam-Australia relations in 2024, particularly with the elevation of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership following Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's official visit to Australia in March 2024.
The ambassador also expressed joy in witnessing the continued positive contributions of the Vietnamese community in Australia. Long-established organizations such as the Vietnamese Business Association in Australia, the Vietnamese Business Association in Canberra and other major cities, the Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts Association in Australia, the Vietnam Innovation Network in Australia, and the Vietnamese Student Association in Australia have remained active and dynamic.

Additionally, several new associations have been established, and many individuals and organizations have been recognized by the host country and honored by Vietnamese authorities for their contributions.
A common trait among Vietnamese expatriates in Australia is their strong connection to their homeland, consistently demonstrating a spirit of unity and contribution toward Vietnam’s development.
Ambassador Pham Hung Tam extended his gratitude to the associations and community members who contributed to supporting compatriots in Vietnam affected by Typhoon Yagi. He also acknowledged their cooperation with the Embassy in numerous activities, further strengthening the Vietnam-Australia friendship.
The ambassador expressed hope that this dedication would continue to spread, ensuring the Vietnamese community in Australia remains united, supportive, and always connected to their homeland.
Christopher Anthony, an Australian guest, was particularly excited to experience Vietnamese cultural traditions. Having visited Vietnam multiple times, Christopher was deeply impressed by the unique atmosphere of Tet in Vietnam, which differs significantly from Australian traditions. He noted that during Tet, Vietnamese people are filled with hope and optimism for the New Year, bringing families and communities closer together.
