Since its establishment, the Vietnamese National Assembly has made significant contributions to the national liberation and unification, as well as the building of socialism and the realization of the renewal process.

NA term III (1964-1971) issued important decisive policies to accelerate the struggle against American imperialism in southern Vietnam and the war in the north, continuing to build socialism, contributing to ensuring the efficient operation of the socialist State authority. In the picture is the first session of the NA term III in Hanoi on June 27^th, 1964.

NA term IV (1971-1975) encouraged the people and army across the country to build socialism in the north and assist the struggle against American imperialism in the south. The NA adopted measures to strictly implement the Paris Agreement to overcome the consequences of the war, boost economic and cultural restoration and development, and successfully liberate the south for national reunification. NA term V (1975-1976), which took place when the country was liberated under socialism, decided on boosting socio-economic development plans and reinforcing national defence. NA term VI (1976-1981) adopted resolutions on renaming the country from the Democratic Republic of Vietnam to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the national flag, the national anthem, and changing the name of Saigon to Ho Chi Minh city. The NA term VI contributed to building the new authority in the south and developed the legal system for the whole country, opening up a new period for national development. NA term VII (1981-1987) issued perse law-regulated documents to concretise the 1980 Constitution, gradually completing the legal system, deciding on important issues in terms of economics, society, security, defence, and satisfying the demand for comprehensive renewal process. NA term VIII (1987-1992) in which the 1992 Constitution – the constitution of the renewal process, was adopted at the 11^th session. In the picture is the first session of the NA term VIII held in Hanoi on June 17^th, 1987.

NA term IX (1992-1997) focused on institutionalising the political program and strategies for economic development set in the 7^th National Party Congress. In the picture is teenagers’ art performance to welcome the NA term IX in Hanoi on September 20^th, 1992.

NA term X (1997-2002) was of increased industrialization and modernization. Laws and ordinances adopted at the NA created a legal foundation for addressing key issues of society, contributing to the national construction and development. In the picture is the first session of the NA term X in Hanoi on September 20^th, 1997.

NA term XI (2002-2007) continued to institutionalise the Party’s strategies, setting a target to make the country basically become a modern industrialised country by 2020. In the picture is the first session of the NA term XI in Hanoi on July 19^th, 2002.

NA term XII (2007-2011) realised its tasks well, making great contribution to the renewal process and to the national development under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. In the picture is the first session of the NA term XII in Hanoi on July 19^th, 2007.

NA term XIII (2011-2016) took place in the context that the country continued to accelerate comprehensive renewal process, building up the socialist law-regulated State and continuing to renew the organization and operation of the State apparatus.
