"Vietnamese People Cherish and Uphold Value of Peace"

At the meeting, international delegates evaluated the Paris Peace Accords on ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam, signed on January 27, 1973, as an important victory for Vietnam's diplomacy, receiving the support of many people with exciting activities around the world.
The delegates also shared unforgettable memories, enthusiastic support that international friends have for Vietnam in the resistance war for national independence and reunification, including the time of the Paris Conference as well as in the renovation, construction and defense of the Fatherland of Vietnam today.
Delegates said that they still regularly inform people about the righteous resistance war of Vietnam in the past and its strong development today. They also called for international support to demand justice for the victims of Agent Orange/dioxin in Vietnam.

Speaking at the meeting, on behalf of leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc warmly welcomed international delegates attending activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Paris Peace Accords on ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam.
The President appreciated the enthusiastic support of international friends for Vietnam, and expressed his belief that they will forever accompany the Vietnamese people in the cause of national construction and defense today.
President Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that the Paris Peace Accords and the victory in the Spring of 1975 showed the world that, despite being a small nation, with determination, spirit and iron will,“Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom," along with self-reliance, great international solidarity and the support of peace-loving people, can defeat a stronger enemy.
That victory is not only the pride of the Vietnamese people but also the joy of peace-loving and justice-loving people around the world.
They are the people who have accompanied, supported the Vietnamese people during the long and arduous resistance war, and followed every development on the battlefield as well as at the negotiating table in Paris.
The Paris Peace Accords strengthens the faith of peace-loving people and oppressed peoples around the world. It became the inspiration of the common struggle of people for national independence, freedom and equality.
The President emphasized that the Party, State and people of Vietnam always remember the valuable support of international friends, regardless of race, color or religion. They are the people who have always stood by Vietnam in the most difficult years.
That valuable support has become part of the history of the Vietnamese people's resistance war for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for peace, and justice in the world.
Referring to the world situation that is expected to have great and complicated changes in the coming time, the President emphasized that the cooperation to prevent conflict and war, to build a world of peace, with fair and sustainable development has become an urgent requirement and earnest aspiration of progressive people all over the world.
Vietnam had to go through many sacrifices, pain and losses in wars.
The Vietnamese people cherish and always uphold the values of peace, the basic principles of the United Nations Charter and international law on respect for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Vietnam does not interfere in the internal affairs of countries, does not use or threaten to use force in international relations, and resolves disputes by peaceful means based on international law.
President Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that Vietnam has always been a friend, a reliable partner and a responsible member in the international community, cooperating equally for mutual benefits with all countries. Vietnam has always been faithful to international friends, supporting the people of other countries to fight for peace, national independence, democracy and social progress.

The President said that after the victory in the Spring of 1975, the history of Vietnam has turned a new page. From a country in the poorest group and severely damaged by war and embargo, after more than 35 years of renovation, Vietnam has achieved many great achievements of historical significance. The socio-political situation is stable, the economy is developing rapidly, people's living standards are constantly being improved. Vietnam has risen to join the group of middle-income countries, having the third largest economic scale in ASEAN. The poverty rate according to the UN's multidimensional standards is estimated at about 3.6%, social security is guaranteed, people's living standards continue to be improved. Political security, social order and safety are maintained; Independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity are protected. In foreign affairs, Vietnam has diplomatic relations with 190/193 UN member states, many of which are strategic and comprehensive partners. Vietnam is currently an active and responsible member of more than 70 important international organizations and forums. These impressive achievements are testament to the successes of the renovation cause of the Party, State and people of Vietnam. |
