Vietnamese Police Peacekeepers Highly Appreciated by United Nations
During the trip to accompany Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai to attend the Vietnam Executive Leadership Program 2024 (VELP 2024) and conducted working sessions in the United States, Deputy Minister of Public Security, Lieutenant General Le Quoc Hung leading the delegation of the Ministry of Public Security had a working session with United Nations (UN) Deputy Secretary General in charge of peacekeeping Jean-Pierre Lacroix and UN Police Commander Faisal. UN leaders appreciated the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security for sending police officers to work as police peacekeepers at UNMISS, as well as its plan to deploy Peacekeeping Police Unit No.1 to a UN peacekeeping mission, stressing that the active participation in UN peacekeeping operations demonstrate a strong commitment and responsibility of the Party, State and Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to the international community, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, and development in the world.

They emphasized that UN leaders hope that the Ministry of Public Security will continue to send highly qualified officers to participate in UN peacekeeping activities, especially female officers.
Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung asked the UN to share working experiences and provide guiding documents and books to the Ministry of Public Security on the building and establishment of a training center for peacekeeping police officers, contributing to improving the qualifications of Vietnamese police officers to be deployed to UN peacekeeping operations.
Earlier on April 4, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung had separate meetings with leaders from the US Department of Homeland Security, Bureau of Diplomatic Security under the Department of State, and several technology corporations like Asia Group and Space X.
At the meeting with Deputy Secretary for Policy, US Department of Homeland Security, Robert Silvers, the two sides agreed on the need to have legal frameworks to create favorable conditions for bilateral cooperation in law enforcement.
Both sides agreed to actively complete the final procedures to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the fight against transnational crime between the two ministries.
Regarding cooperation in crime prevention and combat, the two sides pledged to coordinate in fighting specialized cases, investigating and pursuing fugitives, and share information and experience in fighting crimes related to the two countries, especially crimes of human trafficking, drug trafficking, and sexual abuse of children and women.
Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung proposed that the US Department of Homeland Security advise the US State Department to produce an objective assessment of the human trafficking situation in Vietnam and recognize Vietnam's efforts in preventing and combating human trafficking.
Silvers asked the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to support the Angel Watch Program, an early warning program on human trafficking and child sexual abuse, which is effectively implemented in Vietnam, saying that Vietnam’s support would demonstrate the country's efforts in preventing and combating human trafficking.
Silvers also pledged to advise relevant US agencies to sign an extradition agreement and agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons with the Vietnamese side.
On the same day, at a meeting with Vietnam's Deputy Minister, Carlos Matus, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State at the Bureau of Diplomatic Security Service, US Department of State, the US side acknowledged the effective coordination of the Ministry of Public Security, other agencies and Vietnamese authorities in ensuring absolute safety for all US diplomatic agencies and diplomats in Vietnam, as well as security for high-ranking US delegations visiting Vietnam.
To promote bilateral cooperation in ensuring security and safety for diplomatic facilities and staff, visiting senior leaders of one country to the other, the two sides agreed to promote negotiations on an early sign a MoU on cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the US Bureau of Diplomatic Security.
At the meeting with Asia Group and SpaceX, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung requested the two technology groups serve as a bridge connecting the two business communities and governments of the two countries, as well as support the Ministry of Public Security in promoting digital transformation and modernization of the People's Public Security Forces through technology transfer and aid packages of technological equipment for crime prevention and combat, fire-fighting and rescue.
