Vietnamese Readers Get Closer to Swedish Literature

On the evening of October 9, just before the announcement of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature, the Swedish Embassy of Sweden hosted the Swedish Literature Conference at the Goethe Institute in Hanoi. The event drew authors, writers, journalists, and literature enthusiasts.

This special event marked the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Sweden (1969-2024). It created opportunities for Swedish authors to engage with Vietnamese readers and writers.

The workshop included online connections with Mats Malm, writer, translator, and Professor of Literary Sciences at the University of Gothenburg, Secretary General of the Swedish Academy, and author Anna-Karin Palm, a member of the Swedish Academy. The conference also featured online and in-person participation from Swedish and Vietnamese writers and researchers, including Patrik Svensson and Karin Smirnoff.

Within the framework of the event, the poster exhibition titled "Between the Lines," organized by the Swedish Institute, showcases the passionate insights of renowned Swedish authors and literary experts. The exhibition offers unique perspectives on literature, its role in life, and cultural development. It also allows the Vietnamese public to explore Swedish literature and appreciate the value of literature through the profound insights presented in the exhibited works.

Speaking about the event, Marie-Louise Thaning, Counsellor at the Swedish Embassy, expressed: “This program embodies the spirit of cultural exchange, allowing us to celebrate the power of literature to connect people across borders. We hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for the literary arts in our communities.”
